Before you start

So you want to organize a TEDx event?

We’re thrilled to have you! TEDx is a community of thousands of organizers across the world.

Being a TEDx organizer is an incredible experience but it will take work, dedication and a lot of your time. So if you’re thinking about organizing a TEDx event, it’s important to make sure you’re ready to dive in and make the commitment.

What is a TEDx event?

A TEDx event is a local gathering where live TED-like talks are shared with a community. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis. Learn more about TEDx events

Eligibility

If you want to organize a TEDx event, you’ll need to apply for a free TEDx license; there is no application or member fee to become an organizer. No one is eligible to organize an event without being granted a license by TED.

There are a few things to know before applying:

  • TEDx events are truly volunteer endeavors - no one from the organizing team may be paid and speakers may never pay, or be paid, to share their ideas at a TEDx event.
  • Organizers may not affiliate the TEDx or TED brand with other conferences, non-profits, NGOs, corporations or commercial endeavors.
  • We value and welcome young organizers but if you’re under 18 years old you must be supervised by an adult and they must be included on your application form as a co-organizer.
  • TEDx events may not be used to promote spiritual or religious beliefs, commercial products or any kind of political agenda.
  • TED doesn’t grant licenses to individuals associated with controversial or extremist organizations.
  • The only license that is fee-based is our TEDx Business license.

Please note that TED reserves the right to revoke any TEDx license at any time. Renewal to organize a second TEDx event is not guaranteed.
