在小時候逃出了被戰爭折磨的南蘇丹之後,瑪莉梅克在肯亞的卡庫馬難民營中的學校裡找到了安全與希望。現在她自己是年輕難民的老師。她認為教育是很重要的工具,能協助重建生活,並讓通常會被拒於教育門外的女孩有能力。瑪莉梅克說:「教育能把他們因為失去而流下的眼淚轉化為對和平的熱忱。」
