The Problem:
• Our education “system” and lifestyle in Connecticut, incorporating formal education, importance of tests and grades, culture, wealth, peer pressure, social media, and discomfort with risk, is “programmed” to reduce innovative thinking and entrepreneurship
• There is no “curriculum” to learning nor teaching innovation.
Speaker topics we like:
• Embracing “failure”: The greatest originals are the ones who “fail” the most, because they're the ones who try the most. Fear of failure stifles innovation. We need to redefine failure as a learning tool.
• Speakers Recruiting: Adam Grant, thought leaders who encourage risk taking, such as entrepreneurs with stories of resilience.
• Mindsets: A growth mindset is critical for resilience, motivation, and personal development. Furthermore, it is the key to accomplishment, healthy relationships, success in life, teamwork and learning.
• Speaker Recruiting: Scott Shickler, CEO of 7 Mindsets, the nation’s leading provider of mindset and mental health learning. Founded two highly successful ed tech companies.
• Out of the Box: Our present education system does not encourage innovation and an entrepreneurial mindset – Thinking out of the box.
• Speakers Recruiting: Nick Briere, Executive Director of NextMinds, a 40 year old non for profit that teaches innovation education to K-12 students.
• Innovation in Certain Cultures: Explain why innovation flourishes in their community. Most notably, in certain Indian sects, Nigeria (Ibo’s), and Israel (Start up Nation).
Speakers Recruiting: Kunal Shah the founder and CEO of CRED, an Indian fintech company and investor in dozens of companies.
• Innovation from “amateurs”: Innovation is coming from “amateurs” and unexpected places; often outside the traditional process while collaborating with others; challenging “experts”.
• Speaker Recruiting: Charles Leadbeater
• State of Flow: The state of flow that increases human performance by increasing focus, turning off your inner critic and increasing risk taking, all of which improves the key triangle of Motivation, Creativity and Learning.
• Speaker Recruiting: Steven Kotler
• Other ideas:
* Creating Innovation “hubs” – to foster collaboration
• Raising creative, curious children in an era of standardized education
* Examining major innovations in sports, the arts, business, and technology
• Developing Games and interactive activities that spark creativity – This could be pre-Presentation activities.
