Born with a Swiss passport but raised in the heart of Uganda, Amanda has always called Uganda home. This vibrant and diverse country has shaped her personality, passions, and values. Her connection to Uganda runs deep, it is where she grew up, found community, first discovered the joys of sports, and developed and nurtured her hobbies.
Amanda’s journey with sports began in the local community of Naguru, where she learned that sport is more than just a game, rather, something that also reflects culture, collaboration, and shared identity. The people and communities around her profoundly influence the hobbies she pursues and the values she upholds. Uganda is woven into every aspect of who she is—her perspective, resilience, and a profound sense of belonging.
Amanda speaks about an issue close to home, directly impacting her community and countless others. She is passionate about this cause, and through this platform, she aims to raise awareness and inspire meaningful change.
Chantal Nalusiba Kasekende
Student, poet and activist
Chantal Kasekende is a 16-year-old student, activist, and aspiring changemaker. Passionate about gender equality and education, she has dedicated herself to raising awareness about the challenges African women face in accessing and thriving in the educational sphere. Growing up in a region where girls often face barriers such as early marriage, poverty, and limited resources, Chantal has witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education—and the devastating consequences of its absence. She believes that education is the key to breaking cycles of poverty and inequality, and she dreams of creating a future where every girl has the opportunity to learn, grow, and lead. Her goal is to inspire individuals and institutions to invest in education for girls, ensuring that no dream is left unrealized due to a lack of opportunity.
Nour Hamad
Student
Nour Hamad, is a Sudanese student whose view of opportunity had been shaped by her experience living in Sudan, Dubai, and Uganda. Growing up amidst vastly different cultural and social landscapes, she developed a deep curiosity about how our surroundings influence the opportunities we create and pursue. As an IB student with a passion for biology and public speaking, she explores how science intersects with human potential. She aims to empower others by shedding light on how the brain functions, enabling them to unlock their full capabilities, regardless of the circumstances in their environment.
Prisha Bhatt
Student
Prisha Bhatt is a student at the International School of Uganda where she combines her multicultural roots and linguistic skills to broaden her perspective and reach. Born and raised in Uganda with Indian heritage, Prisha fluently speaks Hindi, Gujarati and English allowing her to connect across various diverse communities and values language as being a powerful tool to express her ideas. As a passionate speaker, Prisha aspires to reach a wide audience and inspire others aiming to make a meaningful impact through her words. Her passion for STEM together with her curiosity for the world around her drives her to engage in activities that challenge her thinking and deepen her understanding in the sciences and mathematics. She is deeply committed to the idea of creating and seizing opportunities not just for herself, but for others too and Prisha believes that opportunities, no matter how small, can lead to extraordinary growth and connection.
Rashida Anjarwalla-Nurhabai
Artist, nutritionist, food processing expert and director of family owned business
Rashida embraces her maiden surname (Anjarwalla) and her married surname (Nurbhai) because she believes her identity is relative to her whole lifetime.
She was born and brought up in Nairobi, Kenya. After marriage she relocated to Arusha, Tanzania.
Her everyday role revolves around being a daughter, granddaughter, sister, wife, daughter-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, friend, homemaker, an entrepreneur and, a citizen of her nation and the greater world.
She is an artist, food processing expert, nutritionist, and one of the directors in the family owned business.
Rashida was awarded The (Citizen Tanzania) Rising Woman Award in 2024, presented by H.E. President Samia Suluhu Hassan. The award was to acknowledge her family owned business's dedication towards women empowerment.
Her hobbies include painting, reading, golfing, motorcycling, hiking and, baking.
Rasul Mirzoev
Student
Rasul is currently studying the IB MYP program at the International School of Uganda. He comes from a rich background in Tajikistan, in Central Asia. He moved to Uganda in 2023, at the age of 14. Rasul values communication, speaking a multitude of languages such as Russian, French, Farsi and English. He truly values the power of connecting with family and with the world through social media and the internet. This drive inspired him to share a TEDx speech about social media, propaganda and misinformation. Rasul wants people to be aware of the dangers from blindly trusting and following quotes on the internet, and the importance of spreading positive and encouraging messages.
Tanush Vyas
Student
Tanush Vyas is a junior at the International School of Uganda and a part of the class of 2026. He has a determined and hardworking mind that is deeply interested in the world of construction and civil engineering. He has intuitive views on the ideology of sustainable development and thrives to use the opportunities around him to take him further towards his dreams and goals. As a student who has lived in a developing country his whole life, he has experienced a lack of opportunities but simultaneously has had many unique experiences in his life and therefore tries to use every part of his life to his advantage and connect with the world around him. One of his biggest passions is to be a part of the development in terms of economy and constructive improvement through the knowledge he gains in life and apply it into the world.
