Keira Silver is a first-year student at California State University, Monterey Bay. She is pursuing a major in Humanities and Communications, with a concentration in journalism. Keira is a published journalist and writer for the Monterey Herald and 65 Degree Magazine. She is also a member of the National League of American Pen Women, which inspires young women to obtain careers in the arts. In 2024, Keira received the Recognition for Excellence in English Award from her high school’s English Department and she was the winner of the Santa Clara County Library Teen Poetry Contest. After discovering the opportunities she could receive through the idea of massive action, Keira continues to work on inspiring others to go pursue their goals and dreams through motivational principles. She wishes to guide others towards success and happiness through individual growth. Keira is very excited about what the future may hold.

Makena Volzing currently serves as a drug and alcohol counselor with middle and high schoolers in the North Monterey County area. Born and raised in San Jose, Makena moved to the Monterey Bay peninsula to pursue her BA in psychology at CSUMB in 2013. After falling in love with the area and its community, she decided to make Monterey her permanent home after graduating. Since then, she has worked locally with various diverse populations, including the unhoused, those with substance abuse disorders, and developmental disabilities. Her passions include spreading awareness and advocating about issues close to her heart, including sexual assault and domestic violence prevention, mental health, LGBTQ rights, harm reduction, and the autism community. In her free time, she enjoys writing, singing, reading, cuddling with her cats (Atticus and Scout), thrift shopping, and trying every craft Michael’s sells.

Natalie is a sophomore Psychology major with a minor in pre-law at California State University, Monterey Bay. She plans to attend law school straight out of undergrad to pursue a career in civil law, as her passions lie in advocating for marginalized communities and bridging the monetary gap in the legal world. She currently serves as the senator for her college, the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, and with her degree, intends to take a liberatory approach to her future profession.

His research explores critical topics such as creativity, morality, and education through the lens of deficit thinking, seeking to uncover how these frameworks impact marginalized groups. With a strong commitment to fostering equity and inclusion, Navid’s ultimate goal is to pursue a PhD and become a professor and researcher who uplifts underrepresented communities through impactful, socially conscious scholarship.
In his role as an Educational Research Specialist at Outside the Box Education, Navid combines his analytical expertise and dedication to meaningful change, contributing to innovative educational practices that inspire growth and learning.
Rachel Jones

Rachel is pursuing a degree in Sociology as a transfer student to CSUMB and enthusiastically works as a youth program activity leader. She sociologically and creatively expands upon connection of ritual, habit, substance use, mental health, and human interpretation of the real world. Rachel’s ‘artsy’ approach sticks very true to this year’s theme, Waves, as this is what inspired her to participate in speaking. After school, she plans to flow with the waves and see where they take her, though she’s aspiring for a career where she can use the skills she has to collaborate with and serve others, in whatever form that takes
