In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Andrew Hung

Pupil at Harrow International School Hong Kong
Andrew is an enthusiastic Year 12 pupil who finds his interests in the more physical sciences as well as Mathematics. Despite the heavy STEM focus, he still loves to discuss and debate on current affairs and political issues and is dedicated in preparing for the next Model United Nations conferences, whether that would be delegating or organising. When he is not in his room working, he can be found in the practice rooms playing the piano or playing any sort of board games with his friends (usually chess).

Annie Yiu

Annie is a Y12 student at Harrow International School Hong Kong. She is a talented artist and musician, devoted to polishing her craft. Recently, she has been extremely passionate about exploring the various non-practical, theoretical topics surrounding the arts, and their influences on people and society.

Benny Zhong

Benny is a Year 13 student studying typical STEM subjects of maths, further maths, physics and chemistry. He is a passionate volleyball player and a super Tottenham fan who also loves to take on fresh challenges. Despite having pressure just a few months before the A-level examinations, he has decided to challenge himself to leave something meaningful behind before his departure from Harrow HK.

Cathy Hu

Catherine is a Year 11 iGCSE pupil at Harrow International School Hong Kong. Outside of being an avid musician, she is a coffee-addict and self-proclaimed Notes app poet. As the Co-President of the Pride Society, Catherine spends time researching and raising awareness for queer activism, exploring topics ranging from ‘bisexuality in the media’ to ‘fanfiction'. When she's not stressing over her assignment deadlines, you can find her gushing to people about jazz fusion bands or curled up with a novel by her favourite author, Haruki Murakami.

Charlize Mui

Charlize is a Year 11 drama scholar who enjoys dabbling in a little bit of every subject area; From the arts to science to even charity, there is not a subject that she has not explored. She is always willing to try something new. She particularly enjoys exploring scientific knowledge and spending her time performing on stage: singing, dancing, and acting. You will find her schedule jam-packed with activities, so much so that you’ll have to book her time at least 3 weeks in advance!

Kelvin Shen

Kelvin is an extremely passionate student in Business and Economics. Being the leader of the school’s debate team, he is a dedicated public speaker who enjoys discussing topics such as efficiency in learning and education. Whenever you see him walking around in school, he is either busy making a new business proposal or discussing random economic and geographic topics. He hopes to be able to express his views on the realities of entrepreneurship.

Kyan Cheung

Kyan is a Year 13 AISL Scholar from Harrow International School Hong Kong. Kyan is passionate about the sciences and maths, but also enjoys geopolitics and history. Kyan does a wide range of extracurriculars, such as attending MUN conferences across Hong Kong, programming and tinkering with Linux, and playing the saxophone in Harrow's various bands.

She is extremely passionate about psychology, particularly social psychology and exploring what in our environment shapes out behaviour and how we interact with others. In her free time she researches psychological concepts (basically watches Youtube videos) and finds new aspects of human behaviour to become interested in and expand her knowledge of psychology,

Nicky is a Y11 student from Harrow International School Hong Kong, interested to share her views on economics and to show her concern for climate change in this speech. She is involved in her school’s publications and enjoys sharing her thoughts on different topics regarding psychology and economics. Outside of the worlds of economics and social affairs, she also feels passionate about history and exploring different ethical beliefs. You can spot her casually reading the Autobiography of Martin Luther King, JR. or simply enjoying a cup of coffee or tea with friends or family discussing Netflix episodes.

As an avid humanities enthusiast and Editor-in-Chief of her school’s literary publication, she enjoys most forms of writing, whether it be strongly worded opinion pieces or angsty poems. You can usually find Nicole reading, playing the piano or lovingly exasperating her friends in her spare time. She feels most passionate about the disciplines of English and History, especially where they coincide.

His love for little-known facts has led him to memorise all the countries in the world and their capitals, the name of every Pokémon and all the elements of the periodic table. You can often find Ricky planning his next study trip to Singapore or his next charity initiative in the Philippines and sharing the riveting anecdotes of his adventures. His life goal is to visit and climb the highest peak of every country in the world.

Sheriza Samtani

Mrs Samtani was born and raised in Hong Kong and has been part of the Harrow Hong Kong community for two years. She is a passionate History teacher with a special interest in Indian History and Culture and enjoys experiencing the different cultural events around Hong Kong. She spends her free time either cooking up a spicy storm in her kitchen or geeking out to History documentaries – with a healthy scattering of the latest Netflix reality shows of course.
