TEDxMaumeeValleyCountryDaySchool is a local event organized by Maumee Valley students in which high schoolers share their ideas and passions with a receptive audience. The event features a variety of high school student speakers who promote thought-provoking discussion on wide-ranging topics relevant to our generation.

Abigail Beier

Speaker, writer, scholar
Abigail Beier, a sophomore at Notre Dame Academy. She is a captain of the Notre Dame Academy Speech and Debate team and a student ambassador for the school. Abby plays piano, volleyball, and broomball, and enjoys learning French and meeting new people.

Aradhya Muthumula

Aspiring leader
Aradhya Muthumula is a sophomore at Anthony Wayne High School. An active member of her community, Aradhya is an officer in her school's student council and is involved in FCCLA and Track & Field. Outside of school, Aradhya loves volunteering in her local Hindu Temple of Toledo, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.

Arjun Jayaraman

Always learning something
Arjun Jayaraman is a sophomore at Anthony Wayne High School. Passionate about math and science, he hopes to attend UC Berkeley and one day work to help change the world we live in for the better. When he’s not at school, he can be seen running (a lot), volunteering around the community, traveling to different places, or just chilling with friends and family.

Ehsan Darr

Driven, Nuanced, Adaptable
Ehsan is a senior at Maumee Valley Country Day School. He cultivates his community by constructing collaborative environments and fostering critical analysis. Ehsan plans on studying and exploring the field of medicine, hoping to promote a new wave of medical innovation.

May Drew

SCUBA diver, writer, athlete
May Drew, a junior at Maumee Valley, is an active community member who seeks to spark deep conversations around underrepresented topics. She is a Global Leadership Program and Model UN leader and a member of Teen PEP and PERIOD Toledo. May also does cheer and track and loves long runs at the park. In her free time, she is an avid SCUBA diver and enjoys fueling her passion for good poetry and music.

Raelyn Perry

Innovator, Leader, and Trailblazer
Raelyn is passionate about phone addictions. Noticing how students at her school always have their faces glued to their screens, Raelyn wants to emphasize the importance of recognizing phone addiction and making personal connections with people face to face.

Reihana Djema

Aspiring Diplomat, Activist, Debater
Reihana Djema, a junior at Sylvania Southview High School, is an avid member of her school’s Speech and Debate team, competing at the State and International levels as a member of the Western Ohio World Schools Debate Team, reflecting a broader commitment to understanding and engaging with global perspectives. With an interest in fostering positive relationships within the school community, she holds leadership positions, such as Orchestra President, and engages in many extracurricular activities. After graduating, Reihana aspires to major in International Relations and Foreign Affairs, aiming to make a meaningful impact on global diplomacy by fostering understanding and collaboration between nations to address pressing issues.

Robbie Zhang

Cellist
Robbie is a freshman and the Secretary of the Asian American Club at Perrysburg High School. Outside of school, he is a member of Musicians for Causes and enjoys playing the cello, tennis, and doing speech and debate.

Sydney Abercrombie

Musician, encourager, aspiring psychologist
Sydney Abercrombie, a Junior at Maumee Valley Country Day School, is a vibrant musician in the Toledo community playing both the violin and the harp in various symphonies and groups. She is an active volunteer in her community, working with the program Gliding Stars to teach people with developmental and intellectual disabilities how to ice skate and invoke joy within themselves. Additionally, she deeply enjoys playing music for others by way of volunteering with Sunshine communities and different shelters around Toledo. Sydney also enjoys highlighting other people's dreams with her work in the Quarry Stroll, a monthly magazine she is a junior writer for, and hopes to one day become a children's psychologist and author.

Tristan Hirt

Dreamer
Tristan Hirt, this year a Junior at Maumee Valley and before that, always a sailor. Sailing around the world with his family until stopping in New Zealand last year. Tristan will not be continuing high school in the States, instead planning to finish senior year abroad, hoping to later major in Marine Engineering… to build his perfect boat.

Vaneesa Panchal

Violinist, leader, opportunist
Vaneesa Panchal, a junior at Sylvania Northview High School, is a leader in her school community. She partakes in several activities, including tennis and speech and debate. Vaneesa aims to bring awareness to the hidden dangers of the food manufacturing industry.

Zayn Cheema

Philomath
Zayn Cheema is a kid from Toledo with big dreams. He attends Ottawa Hills High School where he's part of Varsity Soccer and captains his speech and debate team. Zayn wants to bring people together and leave a positive impact on the world around him.
