This year, the British School Manila will be hosting its 9th annual TEDx Event on Sunday, April 14th, 2024! Our theme for this year will be "Cascade"; which explores the far-reaching consequences of our actions and choices. It delves into the domino effect of individual decisions, prompting us to consider how small steps can lead to significant change, both positive and negative. We will be hosting a number of enlightening speakers, who will present their innovative concepts and ideas.

Agilas F1

Engineering Team
AGILAS F1 in Schools Racing team is making history as the very first Filipino representative in the F1 in Schools World Finals. Their team name, AGILAS, referencing the Tagalog word for eagle, symbolizes their pride for their country and determination to excel with speed and tenacity in the competition. Team AGILAS pours its hearts into this competition and aims to make the Philippines proud in the upcoming Saudi Arabia Formula One in Schools World Finals, this November.

Antoinette Taus

Actress and Environmentalist
Antoinette Taus is a Filipino-American award-winning actor, singer, host, humanitarian, and Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Long a fixture in the entertainment industry in the Philippines, she has spent much of her life in the media spotlight and is recognized as one of the most influential role models of the youth of her generation.

Boy Abunda

Television Presenter, Publicist, and Talent Manager.
Dr. Boy Abunda is a remarkable storyteller whose journey began in windswept Borongan, Eastern Samar. From humble beginnings, he rose to become a multi-awarded television host and producer, known for shows like “FAST TALK WITH BOY ABUNDA” and “CAYETANO IN ACTION”. His career spans from theater to television, where he has left an indelible mark as an endorser, talent manager, and public relations authority. Beyond his accomplishments, Dr. Abunda's commitment to learning is evident through his Masters Degree in Communication Arts and doctoral degree in Social Development. He has served as an Arts Ambassador and championed causes such as gender equality through the ‘Make Your Nanay Proud’ Foundation. His stories challenge, educate, and inspire, reflecting his unwavering belief in kindness and living fearlessly.

Emma Jackson

Artist and Educator
Australian-born artist and art educator, Emma Jackson splits her love of color and nature between painting and ceramics. Her recent work focuses on personal perspectives and stories. Her ceramics include an interplay between the raw and smooth-glazed surface textures and a juxtaposition of visual elements. Emma completed her MA in Art History 2015. She has continued this research with her PhD studies in Art and Design which began in 2018; practice-based research in ceramics and the agency of clay to connect storytelling and culture to establish a sense of place and belonging.

Heidi Sampang

Pediatrician, Humanitarian, and Pioneer
Dr. Heidi Sampang is a pediatrician and the managing director of the Philippines Flying Labs and the country program manager for Remote Area Medical Philippines. She has been working in the humanitarian sector since 2005 and visited countries such as Haiti and Mozambique to provide aid during disasters and non-disaster times. Their most recent project with Philippines Flying Labs was delivering COVID-19 vaccines and medicines in remote areas of the Philippines using UAVs. As the country program manager for Remote Area Medical, she coordinates the deployment of medical doctors and specialists to deliver high-quality healthcare services in geographically isolated, disadvantaged, and conflict areas in the Philippines.

Jeron Teng

Athlete
Jeron Teng, a dedicated professional athlete who is passionate in basketball, has also earned his Business Management degree from De La Salle University in Manila. At present, he proudly represents the renowned San Miguel Beermen in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He is embarking his seventh year in the pro league and is grateful as a student athlete beginning with the Xavier School Stallions and later on with the De La Salle Green Archers. One of his greatest aspirations is to serve as a source of inspiration for young athletes in The Philippines. He aims to encourage young, aspiring athletes through hard work, resilience, and perseverance.

Lorenzo V. Tan

Lorenzo Villanueva Tan is a prominent Filipino banker and former President of the Banker's Association of the Philippines, and Chairman of the Asian Bankers Association. At 37 years old, he became the youngest president of a universal bank in the Philippines.

Michelle Dee

Michelle Daniela Marquez Dee is a Filipino actress, model, tv host and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2023. She represented the Philippines at the Miss Universe 2023 competition in El Salvador where she was placed in the Top 10 and also won four special awards.

Radha Cuadrado

RADHA, is a Filipino singer and songwriter best known as an original member of the Filipino-Canadian hip hop group Kulay. She was a semi-finalist on the 1st Season of The Voice Philippines and is a popular singer on stage, screen and at events.

SYLAS - The Band

SYLAS is the combo music project comprised of Filipina Romanian singer-songwriter Stephanie Belle and Irish producer/instrumentalist Patrick Campbell, dishing out a mesh of electronic alternative pop sounds.

UFI Chorale

Choir
UFI Chorale was established in 2012. The choir is comprised of non-scholar/non-direct beneficiaries of the Upskills+ Foundation from the Tondo community. The purpose of the choir is to share the dreams, hardships, and aspirations of the kids of Tondo. It aims to share the lives of the children of Tondo and share to the world that kids from Tondo have talents too that are just waiting to be discovered and be given opportunities by people.

Zoe Uy

Student & Cybersecurity Enthusiast
Zoe Uy has completed the CISCO CyberOps Associate Training Course along with interning at the Cybersecurity Agency of Singapore. Additionally, she was first introduced to programming at the age of twelve and has since joined and won numerous national and international competitions in robotics and programming, even representing the country in the First Lego League Australia and ASEAN CyberKids competitions. The programming languages that she has learned include but are not limited to C++, Java, Python, Javascript, CSS, and many others.
