As part of efforts to strengthen the presence of the Arabic language in cultural and academic spheres, Doha Institute for Graduate Studies is organizing the second edition of TEDx under the theme “The Language of Dhad” on Thursday, February 20, 2025. This event aligns with ongoing initiatives to preserve Arabic as a language of thought and creativity and to reinforce its role across various fields, from science, arts, and literature to technology and social identity.

Conference Vision and Objectives

Speaking about the importance of this event, Omar Khaled, organizer of TEDx Doha Institute, stated:

“Our goal in organizing the second edition of TEDx at Doha Institute is to create a dynamic space for discussing issues related to the Arabic language in contemporary contexts. We aim to merge scientific and research-based discussions with an inspiring, youth-driven perspective. We firmly believe in the vital role of language in shaping cultural and social identity, and we recognize the challenges it faces in the digital age. Through this conference, we seek to present innovative insights to sustain its vibrancy and renew its usage in diverse domains.”

Khaled also emphasized that the conference reflects the institute’s commitment to active participation in knowledge production and the promotion of intellectual responsibility toward the Arabic language. He noted that this initiative aligns with Qatar’s governmental efforts to enhance the status of Arabic in governmental, administrative, and educational institutions.

Speakers and Interactive Segments

The conference will feature eight distinguished speakers from both inside and outside Qatar, who will share their ideas and inspiring experiences about the role of Arabic in shaping individual and collective identities. They will also showcase success stories that highlight how their connection with the language has influenced their lives.

Additionally, the event will include entertaining and artistic segments that celebrate the beauty of the Arabic language. The full program for the speakers and entertainment segments will be announced on Thursday, February 13, 2025. The themes will range from personal inspiring experiences to analyzing the role of Arabic in digital innovation and social development.

The conference has garnered widespread interest, with more than 100 individuals from 13 different countries applying to participate as speakers, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for spreading ideas related to the Language of Dhad. Registration for attendees from within Qatar will open on Sunday, February 9, providing a unique opportunity for those eager to listen to a select group of creative thinkers and intellectuals who are dedicated to enhancing Arabic’s role in the modern world.

Under the slogan “Ideas Worth Spreading”, the TEDx Doha Institute conference continues its mission of being more than just an academic event; it is a platform for dialogue and forward-thinking about the future of Arabic. Dr. Fatima Al-Suwaidi holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Grenoble Ecole de Management, a Juris Doctor (JD)from Hamad Bin Khalifa University, a Master's in Risk Management from New York University, and a Master's in Business Administration from Qatar University. She is passionate about books and reading.

Iman Al-Naim

Muna Al-Masdar

poet
Palestinian poet from Gaza City and a researcher in visual arts and comparative literature. She earned her **bachelor’s degree in English from Al-Aqsa University – Gaza and completed her master’s degree in comparative literature at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies after receiving the Academic Merit Scholarship. She has published **two poetry collections**, *"I Trace My Steps"* and *"Because I Fear Memory"*, both in Gaza, in addition to her **short story collection**, *"Timing"*. Her upcoming poetry collection, *"Faces"*, will be published soon in Amman. This collection portrays a **mosaic of Gazan Palestinian life**, weaving together the seasons of war, survival, and identity.

Raif Al-Khalayleh

He has conducted several workshops on the Arabic language and has been a speaker at the Arab Youth Center during the World Government Summit. Currently, he serves as the Director of Digital Content at Idrak Media.

Roy Bualuan
