Just Press Play: YOU hold the remote control to life! TEDxBrown County Schools will host its very first and the first in the State of Indiana for a K-12 organization to provide a platform for our youth to share their ideas worth spreading. The day will highlight students from Brown County Schools in grades K-12, community partners and others on the big stage! There will also be an immersive experience all around the Brown County Music Center for the ultimate Press Play event!

Don Wettrick

CEO and Founder of The STARTedUP Foundation

Don Wettrick is the founder and CEO of The STARTedUP Foundation, which hosts Innovate WithIN- Indiana's innovation and entrepreneurship programming and competition. He is also the author of “Pure Genius: Building a Culture of Innovation,” which aims to create innovation mindsets in our schools. Don is known for his award-winning work as a teacher, educational and innovation consultant, and educational speaker. He is also a TEDx alumni and podcast host of over six years.

Erin Murphy

Student

My name is Erin Murphy, my family is strongly rooted in Southern Indiana. My dad is a Marine Corps veteran who served for four years in the infantry while in the middle east. He inspired me to join the Young Marines, a drug demand reduction program that teaches American youth the importance of a healthy lifestyle and leadership. This is how I learned to be a leader. This program instilled a strong sense of pride and drive in my heart that nothing can take away.

Ethan Marshall

Ethan Marshall is a 5th grader at Van Buren Elementary and the son of Rachel Fowler. Ethan chose his topic because he wanted to inform and persuade people to help with pollution. Ethan’s talk is appropriately titled, “A Trashy Problem”.

Eyan Stanley, a 5th grade student from Helmsburg Elementary School and son of Matthew and Alyssa Stanley, joined the TEDEd Club hoping to become a better public speaker.

Kenny Moore II

8th Year Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl Cornerback

Kenny Moore II is not just a cornerback for the Indianapolis Colts; he’s a force to be reckoned with on the field and a beacon of inspiration off it. Kenny’s journey to the NFL is a testament to his unwavering dedication and relentless work ethic. While attending Valdosta State University Kenny was named a two-time all-gulf south conference performer and in 2015 and 2016 he was named an All-American. After Kenny’s successful college career, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the New England Patriots. However, shortly after in 2017 the Indianapolis Colts claimed Kenny off waivers and it was with the Colts that Kenny truly made his mark. Since his time with the Colts, Kenny has been a Pro Bowler, Top 100 Player, and Walter Peyton Man of the Year Nominee. Kenny just recently signed a four year deal with the Colts making him the highest paid slot cornerback in NFL history.

Lillee Sheckles

Lillee Sheckles, a Senior from Brown County High School, practices modeling accurate, passionate, and inclusive storytelling through various student journalism programs. She believes that media classes have the power to change hearts, minds, and schools for the better. The title of her talk is “You Hold the Remote: The Importance of Journalism in Schools”

Lori Desautels

Professor, Butler University

Dr. Lori Desautels, has been an Assistant Professor at Butler University since 2016 where she teaches both undergraduate and graduate programs in the College of Education. Lori was also an Assistant Professor at Marian University in Indianapolis for eight years where she founded the Educational Neuroscience Symposium that has now reached thousands of educators and is in its 15th year.

Noah Lewis

Noah Lewis, a Junior from Brown County High School, strives for others to pursue a sense of leadership in their lives to better themselves and the ones around them. He shares a multitude of leadership examples in his titled talk “Press Play on Leading the World”

Rieke Kugler

Rieke Kugler, a junior German exchange student from Brown County High School, connects with others and herself by traveling the world. She shares the humorous, heartwarming, and insightful experiences that travel can bring… if one is willing to step outside of their comfort zone! The title of her talk is “Pressing Play on Travel: What Exploring the World Can Teach Us.”

Scarlett Day, a 5th grade student from Van Buren Elementary and daughter of Genevieve Plessinger, is passionate about raising awareness about mental health in young children/adolescents. She wants to convey to others that there is no shame in asking for help when life gets hard. Her talk is titled, “Let’s Shatter the Silence.”

Scarlett Record, a 4th grade student from Helmsburg Elementary School and daughter of Brandon Lee and Erika Smith, is passionate about her love for the outdoors. She chose this topic because she feels happy and peaceful when she is outside in nature.

Sister Jeanne Hagleskamp

Vicar and General Treasurer of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods

Sister Jeanne Hagelskamp, SP is a Sister of Providence from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, IN. Currently, she serves as Vicar and General Treasurer of the Congregation. She has spent nearly all of her professional life in education, primarily at the secondary and college/university levels. For nearly 40 years, she has served in major administrative roles: president/principal at the secondary level and as Director of Teacher Education and Director of the Leadership Academy at the university level. She founded the Cristo Rey school in Indianapolis. She holds bachelor and masters degrees in mathematics with minors in physics, as well as a certificate of advanced study and a doctorate in educational leadership.

Willa Quintero

Willa Quintero, a 2nd-grade student from Sprunica Elementary, is the daughter of Megan Smith and Daniel Quintero. She is the proud dog mom of Millie, a puppy who has inspired her and has taught her lots of life lessons.
