Generations of migrants throughout history and across the planet face diverse and universal challenges as part of their migrant journeys. For hundreds of years, successive waves of peoples have been coming from all corners of the world to Australia seeking better lives and living and evolving Australia into a global society. This TEDx Salon event explore of these journeys from fundamental foundations of human anthropology, sociology, psychology, and also importantly, surface tangible actions for those who care to create a community and society of fully being and belonging.

This TEDx Salon event over Zoom featured perspectives and ideas in a multi- and cross-disciplinary conversation. (FYI, this conversation will NOT be posted online later, as TEDx licence rules do not permit this)

CONVERSATIONALISTS
Abby Shen is founder of Quiet Achievers, a platform highlighting the stories and perspectives of Asian Australians on their journeys of exploring and expressing their cultural identities www.QuietAchievers.au

Christine Yeung is Chair of the Asian Australian Organisational Psychology Inc, a 40 Under 40 Most Influential Asian Australians, and a tech startup founder of Beyond Story, who devotes her professional life to solving human disconnections www.AAOP.org.au

Dr. Sylvia Ang is a sociologist of migration, ethnic relations and social inequalities. She is the author of Contesting Chineseness. Nationality, Class, Gender and New Chinese Migrants. Her work is available at www.SylviaAng.com

Tammy Nguyen is Head of Operations at the new Vietnamese Australian Museum and sits on the Board of Multicultural Museums in Victoria www.VietnameseMuseum.com.au

FOUNDING CURATOR & HOST: Dave Lim was a pioneer and global Ambassador of TEDx since its founding in 2009, and is the founding curator of TEDxFlindersStreet in Melbourne. Dave is a global citizen and soul, and has lived, studied and worked in 4 countries: Australia, Silicon Valley USA, Canada, and Singapore, all of which have origins and long evolutionary histories as multi-cultural and immigrant societies and nations. He has worked for over 25 years across diverse professions and industries regionally and globally: Global fund management, central banking, venture capital, technology and innovation across Asia-Pacific, environment @Earth Hour WWF, education, design, innovation, art, curating summit and festivals, and building communities and movements, etc.
