Dr. José Alexandre Ferreira

Principal Investigator at the Portuguese Oncology Institute (IPO) in Porto.
José Alexandre Ferreira holds a degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Biochemistry from the UA since 2010 (in collaboration with the University of Guelph, CA). He specialized in the structural characterization of complex glycans from different biological matrices (plants, bacteria, parasites, humans), glycomics, and glycoproteomics. Researcher at IPATIMUP/i3S in the Cancer Glycobiology group. His studies focus on identifying specific protein glycosylation patterns in tumor cells with the aim of developing new therapies. Since 2012, he has collaborated with IPO, being responsible for training in the field of oncoglycobiology. Professor in different undergraduate and master's programs at the UP and UA, as well as in international courses. Author of several publications in international scientific journals, focusing on the structural characterization of carbohydrates with biotechnological and biomedical applications, glycoproteomics, oncoglycobiology, and tumor biomarkers.

Dr. Katia Pinello

Researcher and Founder of the Vet-OncoNet project.
Katia Pinello is a distinguished researcher and data scientist in Animal Oncology with over 20 years of experience. She holds a Veterinarian degree, a Master's in Sciences, and a Ph.D. in Veterinary Sciences from prestigious universities. Her Post-Doc project led to the creation of Vet-OncoNet, a network dedicated to advancing Veterinary Oncology. Passionate about teaching, Katia also serves as an Affiliated Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health. She recently completed a specialization in Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence. On the TedX stage, Katia Pinello will discuss the interconnection between human cancer, cancer in companion animals, and the environment.
