On 1 June 2023, TEDxAntwerp and ANTWERP. POWERED BY CREATIVES. join forces to highlight the power of design and creativity. During the TEDxAntwerp Salon: The Power of Design, thought leaders from the creative industry will take the stage to share their insights.

Christel De Maeyer

Researcher
Christel De Maeyer is a technology industry veteran with over 30 years of experience. As a lecturer, researcher, and PhD candidate, Christel’s work focuses on behavior change through technology. She is also a member of the Peace Innovation lab at Stanford University, and her applied research in Personal Informatics or Quantified Self has given her unique insights into the usage of wearable sensor devices in healthcare. Christel’s passion for innovation and her commitment to studying the ever-changing dynamics of the tech industry make her a pioneer in her field.

Jo Stenuit

Head of Design at Mazda Europe
Jo has been playing a significant role within the Mazda Design Management team to lift the brand to the near-premium design level it has reached, not only by generating award winning designs but also by contributing to the overall brand design image. Over more than 20 years, Jo has been involved in designing various concept cars, production vehicles and the development of design and brand strategies. Jo is passionate about car, product and graphic design and has been collecting vintage product design examples for many years.

Yasmin Van de Werf

Co-founder & Storyteller at Poppins & Wayne
Yasmin Van de Werf grew up knowing she wanted to tell stories. Today, she is the co-founder of Poppins & Wayne, a creative agency that aims to produce meaningful digital experiences where storytelling and innovative technologies enhance one another. Poppins & Wayne’s first production, PeaceCraft, a story-driven mobile game about young refugees, won a prestigious Henry Van de Velde award in 2019. In 2021, the studio released Pollinator Park, a virtual wake-up call about the ugly future we face without flying insects. In addition to her role as narrative designer and creative director, Yasmin also rekindled her life-long love for illustration, with a first children’s book published in 2020.

Youniss Ahamad

Musician & Visual Artist
Youniss Ahamad is a talented musician and visual artist with a deep interest in design. He challenges the norms of design, moving his way through the awkward, intrusive feelings that accompany performing as a black man with an Arabic name through the gaze of the western world. Making waves in the lively Belgian underground scene, the past few years has seen Youniss working with upcoming talent such as Porcelain_ID, IKRAAAN, and Shaka Shams. His music accompanied the dance performance “Bully” by Tomas Ntamashimikiro (OPEK, KVS).
