As our world continues to face a critical juncture where the relationship between humans and nature has broken down, this TEDxCapilanoU event will discuss the need to rebuild harmony between all species, the land, and the biosphere.

Our inspirational speakers will share their perspectives on how transformative education can help us co-exist peacefully and develop a deeper understanding of what we need to do to co-exist and move forward on the basis of one health, one planet.

Karen Joseph

Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder, Reconciliation Canada

Karen Joseph is a proud member of the Kwakwaka’wakw people. She brings more than 18 years of experience of inspiring diverse partners to collaborate and towards achieving effective, positive change. Karen founded Reconciliation Canada in 2012 to uphold a dream held by her father to witness thousands of people walking together for renewed relationships.

Martin is an internationally awarded wildlife photographer, cinematographer, drone pilot and guide. Martin has spent the last five years working in the Arctic and Antarctic searching for new locations and studying animal behaviours.

Rakeli is an exceptional student and future leader who is currently pursuing a degree in Communication Studies at Capilano University. She has a keen interest in design, community engagement and advocacy and in her short time at Capilano University has made a remarkable impact.

Thomas Flower

Biologist, Instructor, Biology, Capilano University

Thomas is a biologist and educator whose work focuses on evolution, ecology and conservation biology. A summary of his work has been produced by the BBC and David Attenborough.

V. Victoria Shroff

Animal Law Lawyer, Author, adjunct professor of animal law at UBC’s Allard School of Law and faculty at Capilano University

V. Victoria Shroff is one of the first and longest serving animal law practitioners in Canada. She is an animal law trailblazer in both the courtroom and classroom and author of Canadian Animal Law (Lexis-Nexis).
