x = independently organized TED event

This event occurred on
April 13, 2023
Guangzhou, Guangdong
China

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ahaan Chakrabarty

Y12 student from UISG
Ahaan Chakrabarty is a global nomad. Having lived in four countries, he has learned to speak four languages and studied in five international schools. With years of experience working with stakeholders in the field of education as a student, Chakrabarty hopes his TED talk will provide insight into how schools can best support their students and prepare them for the future. In his 12 years outside his home country, he has led international events, worked on scientific projects, and won extracurricular awards. Now, in his final school year at Utahloy International School Guangzhou, he wishes to pursue engineering at university.

Benny Kharismana

MYP-DP Visual Arts and Design Teacher
Since he was young, Benny explored comics, illustration, short-movie, photography, printmaking, graphic design, urban sketching, and watercolor painting, mostly through self-taught. He is very grateful that he had experienced plenty of collaborations with people from diverse backgrounds. This passion for art and connection are what brought him from a landscape architecture degree, a graphic designer by experience, into the world of art education, to share his interest and story with the younger generation. Hopefully, this TEDx talk could encourage people to be more confident in their creativity, artistic experience and sharing them to the community.

Dariush Nasirian

Year 11 student from UISG
Dariush Nasirian is a teenager who is still trying to figure a lot of things out. Among these things is procrastination, a habit which he has struggled with for much of his time as a student. With his TED talk, Dariush hopes that he can share some insight from his experience as a procrastinator and give ideas to those who might be dealing with the same problem. In his own time, Dariush enjoys reading, table tennis and digital drawing.

Melzer He

Y11 students from UISG
Since he was young, Melzer grew up loving to draw, read and occasionally film. Now his full focus is on passing the IB and tennis. But that's not the full story becasue he is still young. Melzer is a year 11 Chinese IB DP student. He is extremely well versed in Gen-Z internet culture (not exactly something to be proud of) and he likes to socialize. He probably sounds like a very mundane and dull person (because he kind of is). But trust me, his boring life allows him to find meaning and fun in the most trivial matters that actually makes his days incredibly interesting (to some questionable extent).

Shwetangna Chakrabarty

Assistant Head of Secondary from UISG
Shwetangna Chakrabarty is the editor at The International Educator. She is currently working in Guangzhou, China as the assistant head of secondary and university counsellor. She teaches mathematics and business management to International GCSE and International Baccalaureate (IB) students. She writes blogs for The International Educator and the IB. She is passionate about developing a culture of internationalism and being a change-maker and thought leader in international education.
