Welcome to the 5th annual TEDxYouth event. For the past five years, we have been dedicated to creating a platform for innovative thinkers and thought leaders to share their ideas and experiences with our community. This year, we continue our mission to spark conversations and inspire change.
With a lineup of passionate student and teacher speakers and engaging performances, we are looking forward to exploring a wide range of topics, from science and technology to art and culture. Our speakers will share their personal stories, research, and insights to inspire you to think differently, take action, and make a positive impact on the world.
Our goal is to continue to create a space where new ideas are embraced. Join us as we come together to explore the world of possibilities that lie ahead.

Alyssa ZHANG 张嘉辰

Student at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School, Class of 2024'
Alyssa Zhang from 11A is a proactive feminist. She believes strongly in social equality and human rights for all genders and strives to make a difference through her words and actions. In this talk, she will explore the roots of gender inequality in childhood, and demonstrate how comprehensive sexual education can change this phenomenon.

Andy Mcnamee

Film and Theatre Teacher
Andy is a Director, Dramaturg & Teacher based in Shanghai. He trained at the London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art and the National Theatre of Great Britain as a Theatre Director. He has worked for institutions like The National Theatre of Scotland, the Royal Court Theatre, London & The National Film and TV School of Great Britain. He believes in learning by doing and the tried and true style of trial & error. People getting up on their feet, having a go and failing is what inspires him so long as, each time, they are failing better than they did before. He loves films, video games and writing in the third person, obviously.

Ben Hansen

Business Management and Economics Teacher
Just your friendly, neighborhood economics teacher. Ben has a passion for teaching and inspiring, and he is deeply interested in the worlds of finance, business, and economics. He double majored in finance and accounting for his undergrad, and is wrapping up his master's of science in applied economics at the moment. He is a truth seeker and appreciates talent in any form it may manifest itself.

Gary ZHOU 周峻屹

Student at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School, Class of 2024'
Gary from 11A is optimistic, funny, and entertaining. As a psychology enthusiast, he has always had a great interest in studying the behavior of groups. At the same time, he believes that many cultural traditions reflect such psychological effects. On a previous occasion, he and his classmates had studied the psychological aspects of fortune-telling. And this time, he will present their findings in front of everyone in a humorous way. After listening to his presentation, you will be amused and at the same time have a new perception of yourself.

Gloria GAO 高歌

Student at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School, Class of 2023'
Gloria Gao is an environmental activist who enjoys inspiring her peers to take environmental action. She initially found her calling to protect biodiversity during an IB Environmental Systems & Societies class about extinct species. Following that, Gloria took every opportunity to learn about biodiversity conservation and the nature around her. During her first fieldwork, she worked as a citizen scientist in Shanghai to investigate the raccoon dogs in a local neighborhood and interview its residents’ views toward this wild animal. As she realizes the unlearned horizon between wildlife and humans coexisting in the city, she wants to share her perspective and the solutions with the audience.

Harley DUAN 段浩林

Student at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School, Class of 2024'
Harley is a humorous, interesting, and friendly person. He is passionate about social sciences. He is very happy to share his views and discuss different perspectives on social issues with everyone. With a keen eye for society, Harley noticed a disturbing trend in the way that we treat our seniors. He wants to share his thoughts on this group and call for more people to pay attention to these neglected.

Olivia MING 明佳艺

Student at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School, Class of 2024
Olivia Ming is an observer and thinker, passionate about exploring the relationships and dynamics among herself, others, and society. With a sense of responsibility and curiosity, she wants to address the universal question: what is freedom? Sharing personal stories and observations on the Internet, she detected people’s behavior and hope to help both community and individuals to govern the horizon between freedom and restraint.

Oscar Shen 沈栩颍

Student at Wenlai Middle School Class of 2024'
Oscar was born and raised in Shanghai. With a wide range of interests, he has passion and love for life, and a keen observation of problems every now and then. Philosophical thoughts always come up in to his mind confronting daily issues. In this speech, he will tell his approach to analyze problems from multiple dimensions and share insights to find solutions based on his analysis.

Teressa TU 涂碧文

Student at Shanghai Qibao Dwight High School, Class of 2023'
Teressa is a debater, psychology lover, Aries, and ISFP who is interested in exploring new knowledge fields. With the passion on critical thinking and debating, she participated in competitions as both debater and judge. She is also the student coach at QDHS debate elective. She will share her personal pathway of debate as a valuable high school experience, also the meaning of debate as a bridge, connecting interdisciplinary and leading us to a new HORIZON.
