The theme of this year’s TEDxKinnaird is: “Shifting Paradigms”

“Shifting Paradigms" delves into the ever-evolving understanding of the world, with a catchphrase "Rethinking the norm, Redefining the future". It’s an invitation to question the assumptions that shape our understanding of the world, and to consider alternative perspectives. This theme invites speakers from various fields to share their insights on how new ideas and perspectives are challenging long-held beliefs and driving progress. From cutting-edge science and technology to the humanities and social sciences, this event will showcase individuals and organizations pushing the boundaries of traditional thinking.

This year’s theme, "Shifting Paradigms" It's about encouraging the university community and beyond to be open-minded, forward-thinking, and willing to take risks. It's about inspiring individuals to make a difference and make positive change in their own lives and the world around them. It’s about embracing change and challenging the status quo, looking at the world from a different perspective, and seeing things in a new light. It’s a call to action to think outside the box and consider new ways of approaching problems and exploring ideas. This event promises to be an enlightening and thought-provoking experience as it aims to foster a culture of innovation, creativity, and progress. A platform for attendees to gain new perspectives and be inspired to take action towards creating a better future.

Dr. Muhammad Muneeb Khan

Clinical Oncologist
Dr. Khan is a leading Oncologist and leader of "Killing Cancer Kindly Organisation." He aims at raising awareness regarding cancer by creating a comprehensive list of ‘Dos’ and ‘Don’ts’ for anyone affected by cancer. He is currently working as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Queen’s Centre for Oncology and Haematology in the UK. Dr. Khan's talk brings a new paradigm to cancer as a multifactorial condition pertaining to the holistic human condition. Instead, he proposes a more holistic approach that considers the various social and economic practices that contribute to its prevalence in the human population. Through his extensive research and digital outreach, Dr. Khan has played a significant role in raising awareness about cancer and its complex nature.

Fatima Amjed

Contemporary Kathak Dancer
Fatima is an Excellent Tutor and Performer of the contemporary art form of Semi Classical Kathak. Fatima also Happens to be a professional Baker with her creative and lovely ideas and skills. She has graduated from National College of Arts, Lahore, class of 2020. Fatima can be seen as a person with an all rounded personality with an eye of an artist.

Ghazi Taimoor Mirza

Educationist
Being a Harvard graduate, Ghazi is the co -founder of Door to Awareness, a non -profit organization providing Free Quality Education to underprivileged community. Ghazi Taimoor is the Head of Professional Education at the LUMS School of Education, aiming to uplift the education sector of Pakistan and enable equitable access to quality education for all.. Ghazi Taimoor, a former accountant turned educationist, shines a light on the inequality that pervades the Pakistani education system such that one stratum of society inherently becomes victim to “the rules of the games structured to conspire in their defeat” that leads to either self-depreciation or a “dislocation of self”.

Irfan Ahson

Irfan Ahson, a former engineer turned photographer, inspires us to break free from our complacency and embrace change in a world filled with challenges. His captivating journey from an academic researcher at Austen to a successful photographer demonstrates the power of pursuing one's passions despite the risks involved. Ahson eloquently conveys his inspiring story of overcoming obstacles and taking a leap of faith to become a game changer rather than being enslaved to the comfort zone. "One should shake things up," he maintained, "be a game changer and do something worth living for.” Through his tireless efforts and unwavering dedication, Ahson has transformed the way people view photography. His incredible story serves as a shining example of what it takes to walk the path less taken and achieve success.

Kanwal Cheema

Founder of My Impact Meter
Kanwal Cheema works in the Information Technology and Service Industry. She is the founder and CEO of “My Impact Meter (MiM),” a tech startup that is a marketplace to create philanthropic impact, and the President of “Overseas Pakistani Entrepreneurs (OPEN) Lahore Chapter,” a platform to create opportunities for the enhancement of entrepreneurship startups. She has made her mark in Silicon Valley, a region in Northern California that serves as a global center for high technology and innovation, by founding Alplar Consulting and being the Global Account Director in Cisco.

Maira Gilani

Makeup Artist
Gilani is a Kinnaird graduate (Batch of 2022). She took up makeup as a hobby and later transformed it into an inspiring profession. She is currently a well -known designer and Makeup Artist of Pakistan. She is working to deepen the awareness about improving body image of women. Drawing from her personal experiences as a makeup artist and as a young woman growing up in a society obsessed with fair skin, Gilani sheds light on the damaging impact that societal beauty standards can have on a woman's self-esteem. Her talk serves as a powerful call to action for individuals to embrace their natural beauty, flaws and all.

Wahab Shah

Contemporary Sufi Dancer
Wahab Shah is known for his innovative approach to Sufi dance, blending traditional movements with contemporary style. He is the creative director at the institute of Performing Arts and established his own dance academy by the name of "Wahab Shah Dance Company" and has also worked as a director, producer, and a writer for a number of incredible projects.
