In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Devan Melwani

Devan Melwani is a senior at Mountain View High School whose voice is vital to the MVHS community. In his talk, he will explore the structural problems within America’s education system and propose a few solutions to create change at the local and national level.

Jaimi Taylor

Therapist
Jaimi Taylor is a licensed marriage and family therapist and the Founder/Director of Core Wellness Living and Family Therapy Inc — a group psychotherapy practice in Palo Alto, CA. She will be talking about the importance of understanding the significant role culture has in the development of our critical self and associated mental health struggles.

Kate Stone

Student
Kate Stone is a Senior at Mountain View High School and a well known figure in the community as the President of Spartan Buddies and captain of the Varsity Cross Country, Soccer, and Track teams. In her talk, Kate will explore students’ perspectives on how parents can best support them as they navigate through the high pressure society we live in and find their own way, identity, and happiness

Luke Barrett

Student
Luke Barrett, a well-achieved Senior at Mountain View High School, has been honing his dancing skills for a decade. His hard work and dedication paid off when he won two national dance competitions during the summer. Currently, he is on the move, touring the country to showcase his talent at various dance conventions. For this TEDx event, Luke will put on a performance that features the same dance routine that earned him his national titles.

Nicholas Guindi

Nicholas Guindi is a Sophomore at Mountain View High School and a member of their Business, Entrepreneur, and Speech & Debate clubs. His talk will explore how social media has amplified political discord and polarization at all levels of society, from dinner table discussions to the Supreme Court.

Paloma Mirrashidi

Paloma Mirrashidi, a junior at Mountain View, enjoys being a member of the Persian culture club and creating music; her instrument family of choice is percussion. In her talk she will discuss how it feels to be reduced to your body in a public space, school setting, and social settings, and how that has affected her understanding of self-worth.

Preston Bhat

In his talk, Preston examines the function of the electoral college and its repercussions on individuals and the country as a whole. He uses current issues and facts to outline the ways in which individuals can make changes to the electoral process on both the micro and macro levels.

Sina Sabet

Student
Sina Sabet, a Senior at Mountain View High School, spends their free time tutoring elementary school children in languages such as Latin, Spanish, and Farsi. In their talk they discuss their journey of creating their own language and how doing so has helped them discover and strengthen their own self-identity.

Thuy Sindell

Entrepreneur
Thuy is a Founder and President of Skyline Group International’s Coaching Division which helps high-performing executives accelerate their leadership growth. She is a large figure in the business world, authoring four successful leadership books and having been featured in Forbes, Fortune, Fox, and the Washington Post. In her talk, she will discuss the five things that build a leader’s influence.
