Light is a perennial symbol of the qualities most revered by the human mind: truth, beauty, and goodness. Illumination or enlightenment - the conferring of light unto man, rational or spiritual, and his emergence from darkness and ignorance - is considered the most exalted state attainable by man, and the imagination ascribes to an inner light the promptings of conscience and consciousness. And the Sun, the original source of light and life, has universally inspired worship, works, wonder, wisdom.

Apricity, a seventeenth century coinage, is defined as the warmth of the Sun in winter. A felicitous word by all means, the moment it succeeds in capturing is felicity itself. Apricity is in nature one of the most benign manifestations of the Sun, a phenomenon of pure gentleness; in desolation, the first, touching glimmer of hope and glimpse of better things to come; in slumber, the event of awakening; in intellectual barrenness, the lambent glow of inspiration; and, of the most beautiful winter, divested of all negative associations, the crowning glory.

Apricity is an emotionally rich symbol for the power of ideas. It is the joy of inspiration and the promise of abundant activity. More, it is a fitting testament to the indomitable spirit and its limitless ingenuity. Join us at Apricity, the eighth edition of TEDxNITTrichy, as we explore the motive and emotive dimensions of the ideas that shape our world.
