In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Gabrielle Welch

I’m Gabrielle Welch and I will be presenting a speech exploring the problematic relationship between humanity and the natural world. This issue peaked by interest after a volunteer experience in which I worked at a wildlife centre alongside conservationists who taught me the dangers of wildlife tourism. Ever since, I've harboured a critical view towards the human systems that seek to manage and control animal life, a perspective that inspired my talk. Whether treating animals as pets or playthings, food, or entertainment, our kind has lost touch with the inherent value of animal life, opposed to their ability to benefit our needs. In my talk, I seek to challenge the audience to reevaluate their perception and think critically about solutions for how to establish a healthier relationship with animal life.

Giulia Nahmany

My name is Giulia Nahmany and I am an actress, producer, author, and Transformational Leader. I empower people to step into their greatness. To live a purpose-filled life full of authentic self-expression and fulfill their dreams through their unique "brilliance". I am passionate about my mission because I believe in using one’s influence and wisdom to help others lead better lives. Everyone deserves to experience and embody how their dreams reveal a destiny that was intentionally meant for them. And there is no greater joy in witnessing people attain that. I stand for conscious choices to stay balanced and happy. To be full of vitality and radiance and live a life in harmony. But most importantly, I practice what I preach: yoga. healthy nutrition, positive mindset, femininity, kindness & beauty - in all aspects of life.

Kathleen Mercury

Teacher and Game Designer
Kathleen Mercury has been teaching middle school students for nineteen years to use design thinking to create functional art from tabletop games to filmmaking, cosplay, and more. She has multiple tabletop board games of her own design in various stages of design, development, and publication with the published game Greece Lightning from Wizkids, Ride of the Valkyrie from Greenbriar Games, and others. She thinks happiness comes from being able to create the life you want, and she attributes her success to her resilience. It's not always been easy, but it's been a ton of fun.

Paige Barnett

My name is Paige, I come from Sydney, Australia and I've been at AISB for one year. My speech is about the demonization of femininity in Hollywood and real life. It's about the way that girly women are treated online and in the real life. I choose this topic because I am incredibly passionate about gender stereotypes and equality. It's an issue that I have come across in my life and writing this speech really helped me to be more aware. I want to share my thoughts in hopes that other people will have the same understanding that I did about stereotypes. I see so many young girls on the internet who are very unaware of this issue. I want to share my message and educate others in hopes to help people to overcome their ideas about feminine women.
