In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Cindy Campbell

Founder
Cindy Campbell is the founder of the Ty Louis Campbell (TLC) Foundation, the Muddy Puddles Project, and the Pret*ty Store. In 2018, Campbell was named Program Director of the Children’s Brain Tumor Project at Weill Cornell Medicine, a research lab focused on improving outcomes for children with brain tumors. Campbell’s oldest son, Ty, was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 2 ½ years old, and he passed away just days after his fifth birthday. Her son’s cancer journey inspired her to change the course of her life and redirect her focus toward changing the paradigm for other children faced with a cancer diagnosis. The TLC Foundation has funded 14 research initiatives, an ongoing fellowship, and an international research conference for rhabdoid tumors in children. Campbell has been featured in eight national news segments, including the Today Show, Katie Couric, Sirius Radio Morning Mashup, and Ken Burn’s documentary series “The Emperor of All Maladies” on PBS.

Mairzadeh's work as an artist focuses on her identity as a first generation Iranian American. Her pieces have been commissioned by institutions and individuals including former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg. Her artwork was a part of an international traveling museum exhibit called Light and Shadows: The Story of Iranian Jews. The exhibition was ranked as one of the top five most important Jewish exhibitions in 2012.
