This event occurred on
May 28, 2022
Istanbul, İstanbul
Turkey

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

My name is Ayse Tanakol an English teacher, former High School Assistant principal and MUN director at Eyuboglu High. Working at Eyuboglu İnstitutions since 1988. Established Model United Nations club in 2000 and running it since then.

Gülşah Çekiç

I am a graduate of Eyüboğlu High School and have been working as a Math teacher since 2002. In addition to being a Math teacher, I also have a role as an MYP Coordinator and have been in this role since 2017. I love psychology and pedagogy so maybe they are the reasons why I also love my job!

kaan Sadri Kahrman

My name is Kaan Kahraman. I am currently a 9th grader at Şişli Terakki High School, and I am 15 years old. I have been playing the guitar for 5 years, which is the thing I am most passionate about. I have proudly been a part of the Terakki Philarmonic Orchestra for a year now. Being on stage and performing makes me feel confident and free. One of my other biggest passion is philosophy. When I was 12, I saw a film called "Trainspotting", which basically kickstarted my love for philosophy. The film had nihilistic undertones that caused me to question the value and meaning of human existence. Since then, I have been reading Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, Sartre, and many more.In the future, I want to get into medical school and specialize in psychiatry. Apart from that, I want to keep playing the guitar and reading philosophy; not just as a hobby, but as a vital part of my lifestyle.

Melis Vanlı

I am Melis Vanlı and I am an IB DP student in Eyüboğlu College. I play the piano, the guitar, and the ukulele. I take vocal and music theory lessons. I identify myself as a singer and songwriter. I am also interested in philosophy and psychology, and enjoy reading about these topics. My main interest is cognitive science and I plan to study it in the future.

Nehir Kader

My name is Nehir Kader and I'm a student in Eyüboğlu. Movies, books, art and sports are some of my interests that occupy a big part of my life. Almost everyday I draw or at least doodle something, or I usually fill my spare time with movies or series. I go to training 4 days a week and read as much as I can, and sometimes I spend time with my friends. My life goes on in a certain pattern just like everyone else and with this TEDX event I had a chance to vocalize my opinions about how our routines can either present us an opportunity to keep us grounded or trap us in a repetitive life.

Nil Salar

My name is Nil Salar and I am a grade 11 student at Eyüboğlu. I’m interested in arts; especially media production and cinematography. I love how art is a way to portray many things while the message differs from person to person. Looking at our existence in the context of my talk was particullarly a daunting journey for me as I challenged myself by zeroing it on a divergent perspective.

Oğulcan Kuş

Oğulcan Kuş is an artist based in Istanbul, Turkey. He graduated from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City with a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Media and Studio Art in 2016. Kuş’s works vary in medium from acrylic, encaustic, sculpture, and film - combining postmodernist aesthetics with a bold awareness of his Turkish identity and American pop-culture. Kuş has shown his work internationally in exhibitions including the "Istanbul Biennial" in Turkey and "VSAs in Residence" in MOMA PS1, New York. He currently lives and works in Istanbul.

Pınar also organizes – not to mention moderates and gives talks at – training programs, seminars, workshops, summits, conferences on communications around the world.

Sanem Kaytancı

My name is Sanem and I was born in January 26th, 2004 (I am, after all, an Aquarius:)) My friends could describe me as wild, extroverted, cheerful, and spontaneous. I always approach problems with a strong mentality and say, "It is what it is." Giving a TEDX speech has always been a dream of mine, so I'm thrilled to be able to cross it off my bucket list. I am an 18-year-old who claims to have discovered the purpose of life when I just became legal. I guess you are going to have to listen to my speech to find out if I am right?

Sıla Isıyel

My name is Sıla Isıyel. I am an Eyüboğlu graduate. I studied in Eyüboğlu for 12 years. After high school, I started studying psychology in Istanbul Commerce University with a scholarship. Child development was a field that caught my attention during university years. I am currently working as a psychological counselor in Eyüboğlu Secondary School. In my spare time, I like to play guitar and sing. Anything can inspire me but this saying by Prof. Dr. Garry Landreth is the most effective thing in my whole life: What matters most is not what we do; it is what we do after what we did". Hope, exists.

Tuğba Ünsal

Tugba Ünsal, 45, mother of Defne. Graduated from Istanbul University Law Faculty. After spending 18 years in law practise as a lawyer, resigned from her partner position. Turned her hobby into bussiness and set up her ceramic atelier and own brand. Designer and ceramicist of Define Atelier.

Zeynep Keleş

I am currently a senior at Eyuboğlu High School who is about to fly off to Amsterdam to pursue her dreams of studying the English language. Growing up, I was never a huge fan of publicspeaking, so writing became my way of communation with everyone, but most importantly; myself. It is rare that I get the courage to share my thoughts with people, so this TEDx event excites me to no end. I have found myself calling in talking about feminist and queer issues of the world, and one day hope to have a platform large enough so I can also encourage other people to answer their callings as well.
