In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Calvin Fambisayi

Calvin holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture (University of Zimbabwe), an M.Sc. in plant genetics (University of Birmingham), an MBA in Business (Nottingham Trent) and a diploma in finance for non-financial managers (ACCA-UK). He has a passion for developing leaders, growing emerging businesses in sub-Saharan Africa and increasing profit margins for enterprises that fail to address over-looked constraints such management capacity and strategic capability. At the time of recording he was employed by Seed Co International as a Divisional Director for business development. Seed Co is a field crops & vegetable seed company that plies the entire value chain from R&D all the way to after-sales service. The African Seed Company’s primary market is Africa – secondary markets include niche markets in India, Thailand, & Pakistan. Calvin’s key result areas are development markets (West & Central Africa), mergers & acquisitions, product development, quality assurance & projects. Flagship transactions include the recruitment of strategic partner Limagrain, acquisition of vegetable entity Prime Seed Co, formation of JVs (Prime Seed Co International, Seed Co Nigeria & Limagrain Zaad South Africa), and the partial disposal of Quton Seed Company. Calvin was previously a director in Edge Growth with single point accountability for the Edge Projects business unit. He assisted corporate clients with transformation strategies that are guided by the department of trade and industry’s broad-based black economic empowerment and the department of mineral resources’ mining charter. He specialised in end-to-end project management services that address the requirements of the codes of good practice, local economic development and social & labour plans. Edge projects business unit grew it’s client base in the agri-business sector through provision of project management services.

Dr David Nathaniel Glover

David Glover is the founding visionary of Ennoblement, LLC, a consulting company for executive coaching and organizational development. He also is the creator of the initiative “I Like Me”, and Spiritual Fine Arts. David’s 20-year career background spans non-profit, religious, and corporate organizations, and has also been a feature international presenter and speaker. He is the author of an award-winning book “Building and Maintaining Organizations”. With a message of self-acceptance, self-awareness, and anti-bullying, he aims to raise the intersection of mental health awareness and religion. Whether he is functioning as a public speaker, consultant, or elocutionist, David is vested in the belief that you can change individual lives, cultures, and the world! David completed his bachelor’s degree from Beulah Heights University in leadership studies with a dual concentration in biblical studies and psychology, his master’s degree in industrial-organizational psychology, and he earned his doctorate in human and organizational psychology.

Isaiah Nathan Johnson

Isaiah N. Johnson is a retired NFL Veteran taking on the role of a motivational speaker and entrepreneur. After receiving a Master's degree from Georgia Tech and playing 5 years in the NFL, Isaiah has used his experience to speak motivationally, write and become an author of a Book of Poems, and invest privately. He prides himself on being an advocate for financial education, speaking on topics such as, "The Fundamentals of Credit", "Fundamentals of Savings", and "Strategies of Venture Capitalists". Inspired by movers and shakers such as Inky Johnson, Isaiah has tapped into his artistic side. He began writing and performing spoken word poetry at Las Rojas in Miami, Da Poetry Spot in Los Angeles and Apache Cafe in Atlanta. Not one to tackle any project lightly, Isaiah has released his first published book of poems.

Petunia Malatji

I am a holder of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Animal Health) and Honours degree both from North-West University. I am a graduate of Master of Science degree in (Veterinary Science) and I completed my PhD in Animal Science with the University of Pretoria. My PhD focused on the resistance of village chickens to nematodes and my research workstation was at the Agricultural Research Council-Biotechnology Platform where I was a candidate for Professional Development Program and Postdoctoral Fellow. Currently I work Unisa at the Department of Agriculture and Animal Health and my research involves genomic approach to studying genetic resistance to infections in livestock animals of South Africa. My research interest is in Parasitology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics and Genomics.

Prof Marcia Mkansi

Marcia Mkansi is a Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management and the former head of the Marcia Mkansi at the College of Economic & Management Sciences, University of South Africa. She holds a PhD (University of Bolton), and is SAP certified. Over the years she has optimized on her interdisciplinary knowledge to address business, economic and societal, constraints and produced digital artefacts and intellectual property. She is a consummate academic and a prolific innovator with the uniqueness of focusing on societal research and human capital development. She serves as an advisory board member of Africa Resource Centre (ARC), a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF)- funded non-governmental organization, set up to be a resource to the public health sector in African governments. Her cross-fields blend of hands-on practical industry experience and academic insight avail her as a rare arsenal of notions, materials and approaches in the field. Her university industry alliances include, but not limited to: Kuehne Foundation, The Innovation Hub, and SAP skills Africa. She is a nominee for the top women Standard Bank and UN women projects, and a finalist under the research, innovation, and creative economy of the National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) – South32 awards. Her research activities on supply chain innovation have won numerous awards and reached the semi-finals of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) global solver challenge.

As Head of Product, Marketing and PR for Audi South Africa, I direct the product portfolio and marketing campaigns of this progressive brand in South Africa. By marrying my love of powerful brand purpose to my passion for effective communication, I’ve been blessed with invaluable experience across the complete chain of marketing. My assignments have included structuring the product offering, conducting marketing research studies, designing communication strategies and translating them into tangible operational plans across the full marketing mix – brand, PR, events, sponsorships and digital marketing. Key in these undertakings has been the management of multiple agency relationships and the initiation and development of partnerships in various countries around the world. I recently oversaw the successful restructuring of the Audi product range and am part of the global network of professionals responsible for integrated marketing management of the Audi brand identity.
