In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Aleksandar Matovski

Aleksandar is an Assistant Professor at the Naval Postgraduate School and was previously National Security Advisor in the Government of North Macedonia. He is the author of Popular Dictatorship: Crises, Mass Opinion and the Rise of Electoral Authoritarianism, which his 8-year-old daughter Mila thinks is a book about how real-life villains trick people into obeying them. He keeps positive about the future of humanity by dabbling in astrophotography.

Frances Cardinale

Frances has always been a maker by nature and in the last few years that has been expressed in many ways. She has created many different things, from apps and devices to paintings and leatherworking. Recently Frances has spent a lot of time learning bookbinding and has made many interesting books.

Hannah Xu

As an international student who came to the U.S. at the young age of 13, Hannah has learn a lot from her four years of experience as a Chinese student studying in an American high school. During COVID-19, struggling with homesickness everyday, Hannah got a new perception of family and realized that we cherish the people around us.

Kurrun Sethi

Faced with anxiety and depression during the COVID-19 pandemic, Kurrun sought to uncover why and to proactively discover solutions. When not whipping up a new dish in the kitchen or tutoring young children with learning challenges online, Kurrun can be found in the dojo. A 1st degree blackbelt in Karate and Jujitsu, Kurrun has dedicated a decade of his life to the art and now enjoys his role as sensei. Kurrun’s strong connection to leadership, service, and community is woven throughout a plethora of experiences in the communities to which he belongs. As he moves forward to pursue an interdisciplinary fusion of Mandarin, economics, and medicine, he wants to inspire others to strive toward a more just, empathetic, and promising world.

Pam Durkee

After receiving her PhD in genetics at Colorado State University, Pam Durkee came to the Monterey Peninsula with her husband, Phil, and young son, Chris in 1984. She taught Biology at Hartnell College for 15 years before coming to York School, where she has been teaching in the Math/Science department since 1999. Three sons (all York alums - Chris, class of 2002, Tim, class of 2004, and Andrew, class of 2008), and six dogs later, Pam has discovered some striking similarities between raising children, teaching math and science, and engaging in performance sports with dogs. She is passionate about each one, and was/is quite happy to spend the bulk of her time pursuing activities associated with any one of them. Ticket is a 9 year old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (Toller). She lives with Pam, Kashi (a 14 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi) and Rider (a one year old Toller). She would like everyone to know that she is the only one who gets to sleep on the bed with Pam.
