In our ever-changing world, we need fearless individuals willing to challenge the status quo, empower others to reach liberation, and voice this movement. TEDxUniversityofSheffield will host speakers at the forefront of developing the future. Join us on April 30th to experience the challenging minds, empowering perspectives theme.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organised events like TEDxUniversityofSheffield that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.

Alison Lally

Coach
Alison Lally is a coach, facilitating people to find more joy and less stress and pressure in their lives. She is also a climate activist and Climate Reality Leader. After completing her degree in philosophy at the University of Sheffield, she qualified as a chartered accountant with EY. She spent the rest of her corporate career in the public sector. While her initial roles were in finance, she always gravitated to developing people. She would get involved in recruitment and training. In the Civil Service, she had the opportunity to make people and organisational development her full-time role. She has recruited over a thousand people. She developed learning and career management strategies. She led the design and set-up of the cross-government Finance Fast Stream, the Civil Service’s graduate accountancy training scheme. She also qualified as a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Lior Messika

Entrepreneur
Lior Messika spent his entire career at the intersection of investments and frontier technologies. Lior is the Founder and Managing Partner of Eden Block, the most active blockchain-focused venture capital firm in Europe. Through his work at Eden Block, Lior specializes in web3 infrastructure and decentralized value systems. Lior is an active contributor to a number of decentralized organizations, as well as the Founder of the Mutant Cartel, one of the fastest-growing communities in web3. Outside of Eden Block, Lior is an active philanthropist and co-founder of the Seadragon Foundation, a social enterprise dedicated to conservation and social impact. Matt Milligan

Entrepreneur
Matt Milligan is a Forbes 30 under 30 entrepreneur, former professional golfer and lifelong learner. He started his professional career in consulting at EY where he founded the EY Startup Network aged 22. During a period of 3 years Matt worked with over 250 founders and go - to - market teams to help them raise funding and scale their businesses. In 2019, Matt cofounded Uhubs with Ash Ali to help 1 billion people realise their potential. Their workforce development technology enables teams to understand strengths and plug their skill and motivation gaps. Matt is a fellow at Kairos, a select community of the brightest young entrepreneurs on the planet focused on problems worth solving and mentors a number of accelerator programs including Basecamp, Founders Institute and Startup Grind.

Penelope Dick

University Professor
Penny Dick (BA, MSc, PhD, C.Psychol.) is a Professor of Organizational Psychology at Sheffield University Management School and is the current director of the Organization Studies Research Cluster. Her research interests include gender inequalities, identity, resistance and power. Her work is mainly concerned with understanding the relationship between societal level structures and processes and individual behaviour. She takes a language-based approach, focusing on how ideas and beliefs at the cultural level influence and are transformed by individuals. She has published in journals such as Organization Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Work, Employment & Society, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Organizational and Occupational Psychology and the British Journal of Management. Penny was Senior Associate Editor for the Journal of Management Studies from 2013-2019 and is now an Associate Editor for the new EGOS journal Organization Theory.
