Theme: Celebrating Diversity In Women’Hood’

TEDxChennaiInstituteOfTechnologyWomen event is to centerstage the emerging perspectives relating to women. It is not the classical narrative of liberation and rights. It is not also about empowerment. It is about celebrating diversity in women’hood’, the diversity of roles women had helped darn themselves to in contemporary society. Women’Hood’, here, apart from its traditional understanding, departs further to incarnate itself into meaning-making schema reflecting the contemporary ethos of how woman's’ role in society is perceived, both by self and the other. It is a momentum set at a snowballing effect to create changes in perception/attitude to and has been given impetus through, both men and women located in different points in history. The ripples created a gigantic space for women to play inclusive roles. Thus marked the beginning of a new era, moving a bit away from advocating diversity to further celebrating diversity. And, women engaging diversity in their own ways thus carving a niche role for themselves. It is not happening uniformly though. It is characterised by uneven spaces ridden with inequalities and asymmetries, at times mimicking a male-centric worldview wherein womens’ agency is not recognised if not rewarded.

TEDxChennaiInstituteOfTechnologyWomen event sets to engage meaningful dialogues to centerstage contemporary discourses with only to rearrange our frame of reference, perspectives and perceptions. Diversity in Women’Hood’ includes celebrating diversity in roles that women darn themselves to perform in societies and the diversity in their differences and, also diversity in the differences that they contribute to communities. Each diversity is valued as an intangible contribution. Very valuable as our world is fuelled by intangibles like empathy, love, kindness, care, sacrifice and philanthropy. Women’Hood’ is the hallmark of this economy characterised by intangibles. The true character of diversity itself is intangible, hence valuable enough to be celebrated.

She started her business 'Mommy Shots by Amrita' in 2013 with set ups in India and Singapore, specialising in newborn and Baby portraiture. Bringing babies and photography together was only a natural move, given the love for the two. Amrita’s completed over 1900 shoots across ten countries and has scaled her Business with an all-womens’ team, this being her way of supporting women in the creative field, hoping to bridge the opportunity gap in a small way. While Photography is her career, she spent a significant amount of time on the stage through musical Theatre and dance, a place she was very familiar with growing up, always knowing she wanted to be an artist. When Amrita isn’t shooting, she’s trying to travel and see the world.
