This world and all it contains is truly a wonderous treasure trove of knowledge, art, and emotion. However, we focus on our daily lives and often block out a lot of what humanity and civilization have to offer. This event is an opportunity for us to discover and learn the other things that make our world magnificent. Hence, we open our eyes to the world and see all it offers.

Ari Bahat

Freshman Student
How can we learn from those who we have lost? Ari Bahat, a freshman at College Prep, answers this question, sharing deeply personal examples. This talk examines loss, human feelings about it, why we must value our lives, and how we can learn from those we have lost.

Makeda Faxio & Aria Gerking

Sophomore Students
Scientists predict that in the next 30-40 years most of the Bay Area will be underwater due to sea level rise and megastorms. How have we allowed this to happen? How do we continue to act carelessly as we watch the ramifications of our inaction? Aria Gerking and Makeda Faxio, current sophomores at College Prep, answer this question by delving into the impediments to individual, corporate, and political action on the fronts of the climate crisis. They will also explore possible ways to overcome mental and systemic barriers to effective climate action.

Theodore Gercken

Senior Student & Chair of the Libertarian Youth Caucus
When Congressional disapproval rates couldn't be lower, but reelection rates couldn't be higher, Americans on all sides of the political spectrum start to wonder just what exactly they are fighting for. In this talk, Theodore Gercken, a Senior at College Prep and the Chair of the Libertarian Youth Caucus, dives into the modern political culture to examine whether increased engagement really builds change in our government and, if not, how we can harness the power of millions of Americans for good!

William Pirone

Senior Student
To scholars, journalists, and think-tanks, the war in Ukraine is perhaps the single most consequential geopolitical event this decade. But amid calls from some politicians to reduce our military commitment to the nation, the question must be posed: What’s at stake in Ukraine? In this talk, current senior William Pirone will dive into the history of, and motivations for, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, while simultaneously taking a step back and examining its implications for the world order— revealing why everyone should care about what happens in Kyiv.
