Brandon Khek

Student at Rice University
I'm a junior astrophysics major at Rice. I've performed research in cosmology for about a year and a half now and have given presentations on the topic before at symposia.

Christa Westheimer

Student at Rice University
Christa created a student coalition (4Words - 4words.carrd.co) by leveraging her skills (entrepreneurship, teaching, partnership development), resources (entrepreneurial funds, social media platforms, ESL books from volunteer site), and networks (Rice student body network, ESL Spanish speaking network, NPO network).

Priyanka Senthil

Student at Rice University
I am a researcher in a lung cancer research lab led by thoracic surgeon Dr. Chi-Fu Jeffrey Yang at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. I conduct research on lung cancer incidence and mortality in different racial groups, sexes, and ages with the goal of understanding the factors that contribute to the overall increase in the number of lung cancer cases. Additionally, I am a part of a nonprofit organization called the American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative, that aims to raise awareness about lung cancer through national and international events. Additionally, I have worked with city and state health departments like the Texas Health Department to pass legislation that will better support lung cancer screening for patients in our communities. Furthermore, we wrote and advocated for House and Senate Resolutions expressing support for Lung Cancer Awareness Month and early detection through lung cancer screening.

Thomas Nitao

I have lost in both conventional and unconventional ways. Whether it be through losing pounds after being 30lbs overweight, falling short of a dream I've had since the 4th grade or losing my grandfather to stage 4 lung cancer, I can share a variety of short stories ranging in tone.
