All this and more, from the people who visit my office every day. I love music, football, podcasts and starting new projects. I am a feminist and a mental health advocate. I am a believer in challenges as my way of growth. I am just another human being that wants to do my best to keep changing worlds for the better.

Chiara Riyanti Hutapea Zhang

Student
Amidst rapid globalisation, Chiara has first-hand experience of interculturalism - and the conflict that can arise. Being born in the United States to Chinese and Indonesian parents, her passion has always been to bridge cultural gaps through social justice, public policy, and economics. In this talk, Chiara discusses her experiences living in Indonesia, bringing to light prominent environmental issues such as The Citarum River, the world’s dirtiest river containing 20,000 tonnes of trash daily, and Bantar Gebang, South East Asia's biggest landfill site. As an ambassador of Indonesian youth, she seeks to relieve the plight of locals living in those areas, especially the children who are instrumental in stopping the cycle of poverty. A Grade 11 student at the British School Jakarta, her favourite quote by holocaust survivor Edith Carter is: “Everybody, every human being has an obligation to contribute somehow to this world."
