Theme: Pyxis

Stars, scintillating just by themselves, amass to form magnificent constellations without losing their sovereignty. Constellations are, therefore, a fitting parallel to the revolutionary ideas that propel our communities. “Pyxis,” abbreviated from Pyxis Nautica, is a constellation depicting the Mariner’s Compass. Although visually faint, Pyxis has remarkable mythology behind it – that of guiding Jason and the Argonauts on their perilous expedition.

Even more so with food, something so commonplace, yet associated with significant connotations of identity and emotion.

Dr Bitasta Das, a visionary in pedagogy, has worked at the forefront of harmonizing folk art and science. She is passionate about creating a dialogue within this often-misunderstood dichotomy. A humanities instructor at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, she is deeply involved in promulgating folk knowledge through her work. She teaches a humanities paper on “Mapping India with the Folk Arts” to the undergraduate students of IISc. Her book “Arting Science” is lauded as a pioneer work on communicating science with Indian folk art. A member of the Chhattisgarh State Planning Commission, she has been invited to deliver lectures at several institutes in India and abroad.
