Theme: Dare To Dream

This event occurred on
April 9, 2022
Hanoi, Ha Noi
Vietnam

This year, the theme of the event will be Dare to Dream, which is tied back to Concordia’s annual theme Dare Mighty Things. We chose this theme because it is very relatable to all of us since we are at an age where we have a lot of goals and aspirations, plus we think that this is an open-ended topic with a lot of aspects to explore. Through this TEDx event, we hope to create a platform for speakers to share their perspectives, thus accomplishing TED's mission to research and discover “ideas worth spreading.”

Erika Chun

Middle School Student
Her name is Erika Chun and she is a TEDx speaker from Concordia, 7th grade. Her hobbies are playing basketball, playing volleyball, and reading novels. Selena Gomez is her role model because she never stops spreading her kindness to people even through tough times. She is the happiest when she is around her family and her adorable cat. It's such a pleasure to be one of the TEDx speakers

Gia Linh Trinh

Elemetary School Student
My name is Linh. This year I'm eleven and in grade five. I'm a student at Concordia International School Hanoi. I've studied here for eight years: from preschool to fifth grade. I enjoy playing the piano, knitting, gardening and reading in my free time. Other activities I find pleasant include solving puzzles, sowing, biking, and sketching. I find lots of things very intriguing. I'm interested in culture; I like to research and read about greek mythology and Hindu mythology. I like learning about historical events such as WWII. I study history in different ways. I like learning about artists and pieces of art, about wars and battles, and about religion from various countries. Besides history, I find literature engaging. I enjoy the writing part of literature. It's one of my strongest passions. I believe you should make an impact on the world, and leave your mark on it. By recording your words in ink: you have an almost-forever lasting imprint of yourself for the world.

Hai Yen Tran

High School Student
Hi everyone, it's Hai Yen! I'm 17 years old and going to grade 12 at Concordia International School Hanoi. In my free time, I enjoy reading, going down Youtube rabbit holes, and scribbling down whatever comes to mind: could be doodles or writing, depending on my mood. My ideas usually come from seeing something in the outside world and letting my imagination run wild with it (which is probably the only running and outside-related thing I do on a regular basis, especially when lockdowns are involved). I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone has to say at this event!

Hoang Anh Thach Do

Middle School Student
My name is Hoang Anh, I am currently in Grade 8 at Vinschool Metropolis. Since primary school, I have been playing basketball with several clubs and I have always been fascinated by stories related to the psychology of human performance. Since grade 1, my parents insisted on me playing sports and I am grateful for that, as I love learning about the mind-body connection everyday. I am an extrovert (to my surprise) and I love to observe and listen to viewpoints and perspectives of the people around me. Sometimes, I like to debate with them, too. Maybe too much. In fact, I am a member of my school debate club ETABED. Because of that tendency to debate, people may mistakenly think I am aggressive. Oh well, I can’t totally disagree with them! Honestly, I think ideas need to be exchanged among people so that we all could help each other arrive at the fundamental truths about things. As they say, and Ye Shall Know the Truth and the Truth Shall Make You Free.

Karin Iwashiro

High School Student
Karin Iwashiro is an eleventh grade student at Concordia International School Hanoi. She has a passion for Chinese/Japanese calligraphy that has inspired her from the age of 10. After recognizing the beauty of stylized artistic writing of Chinese characters and its extensive history, she continued her artistry journey. As a member of Kyoto-Shodo-Gakuin, she has participated in multiple competitions as well as art festivals both in Japan and in Vietnam.

Linh Dan Pham

High School Student
Pham Linh Dan is 16 years old, a first-year IB student at the British International School of Hanoi. Inspired by the infinity of human goodness, she hopes to further her studies in people-oriented fields such as Business, Psychology, and/or Education to ultimately uplift and empower other incredible individuals. She believes every person has the potential to create their own positive impact on the world and courageously continue the formidable ripple effects of love. To deal with the spirals of life, she likes to journal, take long walks in nature or fiddle on the piano. They don’t pause but put time back into her hands when she feels like it is slipping. Linh Dan is grateful to have had this opportunity!

Minh Anh Nguyen Dang

High School Student
My name is Minh-Anh Nguyen-Dang and I am currently a sophomore at Hanoi-Amsterdam High School. In my free time, I usually listen to audiobooks, watch YouTube, listen to music and converse with my friends. I love to spend quality time with everyone and listen to their stories--I derive great inspiration from everyday little things.

Soobeen Lim

High School Student
Her name is SooBeen Lim and she is part of the CISH community. She is interested in the field of psychology—specifically criminology—so she likes to spend time reading books related to it. Music is also a big part of my life. Though she does not have an inspirational figure, she receives many inspirational messages from the lyrics of songs and books. Moreover, she has been abroad with my sister several times. Since the rest of my family was in Korea, while her sister and she were abroad, She faced many challenges. Out of all of them, the biggest challenge was to overcome the fear of speaking a language that she was unfamiliar with: English. To get over this fear, she studied English every day, both at school and at home. She also received help from friends. Through this process, she is now able to speak English more fluently than before and has learned that effort will pay off.

Thao Vy Nguyen

High School Student
Hi, I’m Vy, you can also call me Elize, Liz, and a thousand other variants of the name Elizabeth. I am a 10th grader from Vinschool Times City, Hanoi. In my free time, I paint, dance, listen to music, write, read, and I act as an unlicensed therapist to a whole lot of people. The circumstances that led to that last “hobby” hasn’t occurred to me yet, but I do know for sure that my intense desire to help friends and strangers alike through their difficulties-the difficulties that are so akin to mine-has fueled me to keep going with that special pastime activity and that passion for helping has landed me here, at TEDxConcordiaIntlSchoolHanoi. As a speaker that I am very honored to be, I hope to inspire, to help, and above all, to keep it real and heart-to-heart. On a less serious note, I am hellbent on taking as many pictures of my cat as I can, and I will risk everything for chubby bouncy seals.

Tung Duong Nguyen

Primary School Student
Hi, My name is Tung Duong. I’m currently a 5th grader in the Dewey school. I love books, I could read them all day and never got tired of them. Reading is fun and interesting. I also like debate. I have been debating since beginning of elementary school and every year, it gets better! Debate helps me with building line of reasonings which is helpful for public speaking! I hope everyone will have a good time at the event!

Tuong Minh Nguyen Vo

Middle School Student
My name is Minh Vo and I currently attend 7th grade at the Concordia International Schools Hanoi. I have been following my interest in law and music since my elementary years. My fascination with the law was nourished through movies that I have seen on the law. I have always been enhancing my knowledge on law, Specifically intellectual property law. Music became a big part of my life through my sister who started learning piano when she was three. I really admired the instrument and got involved in grade 1. Later, I started learning other instruments like the violin and the drums. My latest instrument of interest is the Vietnamese zither which has brought me close to my own culture. Other than my hobbies, the biggest influence on my life is my inspiration. Every time I begin a project, what moves me forward is the vision of success. This visualization of achievement is what drives me forward every day. I am looking forward to working with Tedx Concordia Hanoi.

Vi Thao Truong

High School Student
My name is Thao and I am an 11th grader at Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted. My interests vary in fields of social sciences and humanities, and I’m intrigued by race, gender, the media, literature and psychology, particularly the intersections of these topics and how it relates to our experiences as humans. These factors have, in one way or another, shaped us in ways unbeknownst to ourselves. How these external elements affect us is so fascinating to me; I want to dedicate my effort and knowledge to form an understanding of myself, people around me and how society functions as a whole. I believe the greatest mystery to us until this day is no one but ourselves, and as long as I can remember I have always wanted to better the world, even just for a little bit. During my free time, I love watching movies, writing and reading. Especially during the pandemic, enjoying media is the best way to enrich your understanding of the world, and an excellent way to let off steam.
