Theme: Fabric of Being

TEDx is an independently organised TED event that sets the stage for multiple accomplished speakers from various fields to give their insights into how their fields tie in with the theme, which, for our event this year, is ‘The Fabric of Being’. Our event is organised by the students of Global Indian International School SMART Campus, Singapore.

Akshita Nanda

All-rounder

Akshita Nanda has written two novels, Beauty Queens of Bishan (Penguin Random House SEA) and Nimita's Place (Epigram Books), and digital adventure Kallang River Quest. Nimita's Place co-won the 2020 Singapore Literature Prize for English Fiction and was adapted for the stage in 2019 by T:Works. She has worked in a cancer research lab: as an editor of books and as a correspondent for The Straits Times newspaper. She has a master's in international affairs from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and is interested in oceans, futures thinking and migration.

Aniruddha Ganguly

Co-Founder and CEO of Negobot, Asia's first business negotiation solution powered by Artificial Intelligence

Aniruddha is the Co-Founder and CEO of Negobot, Asia's first business negotiation solution powered by Artificial Intelligence. Prior to building Negobot, Aniruddha worked for two decades in management consulting and banking across Mumbai, Sydney, Hong Kong and Singapore. He built and managed high-performing teams, led business transformation and growth initiatives. He is passionate about understanding the economic way of looking at life, and building solutions around it.

Dan Freiss

An Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore's Department of Geography. Dan's study focuses on how coastal habitats, through their "blue carbon," might help us buffer climate change. He is a strong advocate of crossing the academic-implementation divide, and works with a range of government, NGO, commercial and community groups to implement on the ground mangrove conservation initiatives.

Daniel Friess

An Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore's Department of Geography. Deeksha Kapoor

IB Student

Her oratorical and debating journey started with TEDx New York when she gave a speech on the history of women’s political and legal rights. It was a pivotal moment for her as she has been a fervent orator and debater since then. It led the path for her to become the debater in her mainstream Singapore schools, participating in a myriad of competitions such as the Asian Debating Championships and others. Most recently, as the GIIS Debate President, she established multiple training sessions and competitions during 2020-21, uplifting the GIIS students’ debate and oratorical skills and creating a succession pipeline for future speakers representing the school. Graduating from highschool as a TEDx speaker once again is a symbolic bookend to my oratorical experience as she steps into university soon. She is honored and highly excited to share her ideas relating to the theme of ‘Fabric of Being’ with her audience.”

Justin Boyd

The founder and co-owner of Mercatis Law Asia LLP - a foreign law firm regulated in Singapore. He has over 30 years of legal and regulatory experience and expertise by holding risk positions in commodities and financial markets.

Lawrence Chong has worked as a CEO of Consulus, an enterprise that aims to serve leaders and companies for a better tomorrow and has been a global speaker at the World Marketing Summit, TEDx, World Brand Congress, and many more.

Mantej Singh

Computer Scientist

Mantej Singh is a Computer Scientist who is interested in the intersection of medicine, man, and machine. His research interest is to leverage the cognitive power of the brain to develop technologies that can control the human body. His long-term goal is to develop medical devices that are cost-effective and accessible to underserved populations to reduce global health inequity.

Melissa Maria

An exemplary educator through and through, our dear principal Ms. Melissa Maria has been on a journey to reform our current education system to bring out the best in every child. Her student centric approach to education has always kept the students needs first and foremost.

Om Koli

Om is an IB student at GIIS who often finds himself twisted up in theories surrounding physics and philosophy. With years of experience in public speaking, an eagerness to communicate his curiosity and a desire to talk about the big and not-so-big ideas, he is extremely excited to be able to share his ideas on this platform.

Praneeth Suresh

Praneeth wishes to bring about his vision for the world through his transformational thinking. His interest in computing and artificial intelligence has led him to understand the social impacts and consequences it has on society and humanity as a whole. Through his aim for service for the community he hopes to partake in developing various models and applications to solve real-world problems.

Rituparna Sengupta

A national award winning actor and dancer, Ms.Rituprana Sengupta. She has acted beautifully in many Bengali and Hindi movies and has received critical acclaim for her roles in Dahan, Ek Din, Chaturanga, and many more. With her passion for dancing and her interest in various social campaigns, she has risen to the pinnacle of the show business industry.

Robin Pho

Co-founder and CEO of Right People Renewable Energy, Chairman of the Right People Group of Companies

RPRE specialises in helping commercial and industrial clients switch from dirty fossil fuels to clean renewable solar energy, working mainly on off-grid projects in remote locations across Indonesia. Robin is a certified member of MENSA(), graduated from the Singapore Management University (SMU) with double majors in marketing and law, and has an Executive Diploma in Directorship from the Singapore Institute of Directors (SID). He attained his certification as a Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) professional in 2017, and graduated with a Global Executive MBA from INSEAD (specialising in Family Business) where he was awarded the INSEAD Scholarship of Excellence.

Sha-En Yeo

A TEDx spokesperson and the founder of ‘Happiness Scientists’, Sha-En Yeo is an inspiration to all of us. She is the first Singaporean to graduate with a Master of Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and is currently a consultant to Mental Health Startups and a mental health advocate. Her aim is to spread happiness around the world as she believes that happiness is teachable and learnable.

Sindhu Shree Muddam

IB Student

Sindhu Shree is a 16-year-old student who has been an ardent lover of debate and public speaking for over a decade now. If she can catch a breather from the utopian standards of IB, she enjoys binge-watching k-dramas and listening to R&B. When she was offered a chance to speak in TedX, her one goal was to ensure that she did not come off as a hypocrite, which lured her to speak about a realistic and ever-present topic in today's age: Toxic Productivity. She believes that our economy, happiness, and the pandemic are all essential threads in the 21st-century machine, and she is excited to delineate the connection of these threads in the fabric that is our attitude towards achievement.

Sneha Gupta

Vice President, KCL Clinical and Research Society

Sneha Gupta is currently a final year medical student at King’s College London. Sneha’s interests include cardiology, dermatology (committee officer for Dermatology society), clinical research (Vice President, KCL Clinical and Research Society) and improving patient access to healthcare. Prior to this, she graduated from National University of Singapore, Faculty of Law in 2017. She was heavily involved in Pro Bono work and was the Officer for Students for Migrants.

Uttam Kripalani

The founder and current chairman of Galaxy Insurance Consultants Pte Ltd, Mr Uttam Kripalani. He established this insurance broking company in 1983 and has been involved in the Rotary movement in Cochin and Singapore for more than 40 years. As Vice-President of the Indian Junior Chamber in 1969/70, he helped promote numerous leadership development and training programmes throughout India. Recently, he was made an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Singapore for his many years of dedicated service to the Club and the community at large.
