In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Erica Lockheimer

VP of Engineering at LinkedIn
Erica Lockheimer is the VP of Engineering at LinkedIn, overseeing the LinkedIn Talent Solutions suite. Her teams oversee LinkedIn Learning (formerly known as Lynda.com) and LinkedIn Talent Solutions (connecting our members to career opportunities and helping recruiters find the best candidates for their companies). She has been at LinkedIn since 2010, and during her tenure has also created the Women In Tech (WIT) program from the ground up and has been an advocate for women in engineering both internally and externally through programs and events that build up the WIT Community. In 2014 and 2015, Erica was voted amongst the top 22 women engineers in the world by Business Insider. Erica is a San Francisco Bay Area native, has 2 kids, loves to run and is a graduate from San Jose State University with a B.S. in Computer Engineering.

Lawrence White

Professor of Economics at NYU Stern
Professor White is the Robert Kavesh Professor of Economics at New York University’s Stern School of Business and Deputy Chair of the Economics Department at Stern. During 1986-1989 he was on leave to serve as Board Member, Federal Home Loan Bank Board, in which capacity he also served as Board Member for Freddie Mac; and during 1982-1983 he was on leave to serve as Director of the Economic Policy Office, Antitrust Division, U.S. Department of Justice. He is the General Editor of The Review of Industrial Organization and formerly Secretary-Treasurer of the Western Economic Association International. Prof. White received his B.A. from Harvard University (1964), the M.Sc. from the London School of Economics (1965), and the Ph.D. from Harvard University (1969). He is the author of several books and volumes, and served on the Senior Staff of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers during 1978-1979. He was also the chairman of the Stern School’s Department of Economics.

Nidhi Mathehalli

Student
Nidhi is a junior at Saratoga High School. As someone interested in Artificial Intelligence and Computational Linguistics, she has competed and won various science fairs and entrepreneurial competitions throughout the past few years. Her most recent project has been a Money Reader for the Visually Impaired in third world countries, in which she created a currency identifier that is over 10 times cheaper than those sold in the market. All of her projects, including this one, have been aimed at making necessary devices at a cheaper and more affordable price, especially for the visually impaired. As such, she has created a nonprofit organization, Helping Vision, aimed at creating AI-powered devices to improve the lives of the visually impaired in third-world countries.

Selina Chen

Student
Selina Chen is a senior at Saratoga High School. A Chinese-American immigrant, she has been playing the traditional Chinese instrument Guzheng (古筝, literally, “ancient zither”) for over a decade. She performed solo at Carnegie Hall, guest-lectured at San Jose State University, and was certified as Level 10 with distinction by China’s Central Conservatory of Music. She is committed to highlighting Chinese culture and has spoken about Guzheng on various Speech and Debate stages, where she’s been honored with a national championship.
