In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Afzal Makhmudov

Student
Afzal is an 8th grader who strives to take part in projects in and outside of school. He likes to play basketball and has an easy sense of humor. One project Afzal is taking part in at the moment is Coaching Middle school Model United Nations. He is also an active member of the Ultimate Frisbee team. He also Has started attending a first aid club. He tends to be forgetful sometimes but he will always put in work. Afzal also recently got into photography and has started to grow his comfort zone day by day. Afzal loves languages. He is learning French, Arabic, Uzbek, and Russian. Afzal’s goal this year is to get perfect grades and continue to take part in different projects and communities. Afzal is From Uzbekistan but is currently living in Lebanon where every day he tries to make someone's day better.

Hannah Fakih

Student
Hannah Fakih is a 12th-grade student at ACS Beirut. She enjoys writing about thought-provoking topics, and finding, not only the importance but also the beauty, in some of the most mundane moments and things. Aside from language and literature, she enjoys psychology, as it allows us to make sense of the world by picking apart the explanations behind our every conscious, and subconscious, movement. Outside of her academic environment, Hannah is a dancer, a musician, and an avid reader.

Iman Saad

Teacher
Iman Saad is a passionate kindergarten teacher starting her tenth year of teaching. Being a life-long learner herself, she aims to instill the love of learning in young children, encouraging them to be curious about the world around them. Iman is always on the lookout for opportunities to learn, grow, and expand her understanding of other cultures and languages; especially through her reading, travels, as well as her day to day experiences. She is currently working on her first book.

Jennifer Griffith

Entrepreneur/Parent
Jennifer Griffith is an entrepreneur and fundraiser focused on sustainable tourism and agriculture that supports small businesses in rural communities. She is a lover of the culinary arts, Middle Eastern food, and cultural identity. Jennifer is most passionate about her family- her loving husband and 3 beautiful children.

Judy Hammoud

Student
Judy Hammoud is currently a junior at the American Community School in Beirut. She moved back to Lebanon in 9th grade after living for 5 years in Saudi Arabia. She likes to spend her time reading and finding new ways to challenge herself. Judy has developed an interest in psychology from an early age, as she finds it fascinating how the human mind and bodywork together. She hopes to one day pursue a career in psychology.

Noura Ghandour

Student
Noura Ghandour is an 11th Grader and this is her fourth year at ACS. She lived in Lagos, Nigeria for the first 13 years of her life. Besides doing well in school, Noura also actively engages in her community on a daily basis. She jumps at every opportunity that comes her way because she loves the feeling of achieving. Noura finds joy in having conversations and connecting with new faces. She believes that everyone has an interesting story to tell and she wants to learn from them all. Noura has a lot of passions that are from a wide range of aspects like sports, the arts, and community work. She loves traveling around the world, experiences new cultures with new stories. She highly values herself, her friends, and her family. She works towards being a happier person and bettering the lives of everyone around her.

Timotea Pereira Neves

Teacher
Timoteo Pereira Neves is a high school English teacher and a creative writer. He was born in Brazil and has lived for nearly 10 years in Lebanon where he completed his schooling and higher education. He is a life-long learner and a target of God's infinite love.

Victoria Raad

Teacher
What and where is Vicky’s lighthouse? Vicky Left Lebanon in 1985 during the civil war, thinking she will never return to live in Lebanon. After 16 years of being abroad, living in France, Turkey, Colombia and India she came back to Lebanon. She will tell you some of her learning and her journey and where she is right now in her life next to her lighthouse.

Yara Chaptini

Student
Yara Chaptini is an overall well-rounded person. Yara is a freshman at The American Community of Beirut and enjoys everything sports, music, and food. She's an active individual in the community and has a passion for helping others. Eager to learn, she is always up for a challenge. Curious to experience new things, such as speaking at this TEDx conference, working hard to achieve her goals, Yara’s resilience has made her the person she is today.
