Benny Ron

PhD, Aquaculture Specialist; Blue Revolution Hawaii; AquacultureHub
DR. TETSUZAN BENNY RON, PhD, is an Aquaculture Specialist, and also serves on the Board of Blue Revolution Hawaii, and manages AquacultureHub. Previously, he was a specialist at the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR), University of Hawai'i at Manoa, as well as teaching in aquaculture and comparative endocrinology. He also founded the online AquacultureHub social network and Open Access, scientific publication resource, and Aquaculture Training On-Line Learning (ATOLL) program. Dr. Ron also served as Head of the Fish Physiology Department in the National Center for Mariculture of the Israel Oceanographic and Limnological Research Institute, and as an advisor to the European Commission.

Dawn Lippert

Executive Director of Elemental Excelerator, Chair of Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative Advisory Board
Dawn Lippert is Founder and CEO of Elemental Excelerator, a global climate technology investor and non-profit impact organization, which has invested in over 100 startups. She is also Chair of Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative Advisory Board, and Director of Innovation and Community at Emerson Collective, the investment and philanthropic platform led by Laurene Powell Jobs. Dawn received the 2020 UN Global Climate Action Award for her contribution in “Pioneering a New Funding Model for Climate Tech”. She also served as a 2015 Omidyar Fellow, and in 2010 founded WiRE (Women in Renewable Energy) and serves on its board. Previously, Dawn was a management consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington DC. She received her B.A. degree cum laude from Yale University in environmental studies, and M.A. degree from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Management.

Luis Vega

PhD, Renewable Energy Consultant
Luis Vega holds degrees in Applied Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and Applied Ocean Sciences from the US Naval Academy (B.S.), CALTECH (M.S.) and the University of California at San Diego (Ph.D.). His professional experience ranges from analytical studies to laboratory scale and model basin tests as well as at-sea tests of marine renewable energy equipment. He lead the team that in 1993 designed and tested Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) experimental plants (210 kW OC-OTEC and 50 kW CC-OTEC), demonstrating net production of electricity and desalinated-water. Previously, he managed the Hawaii National Marine Renewable Energy Center (HINMREC) at the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) of the University of Hawaii.

Mathew Goldsborough

Chief Technology Officer, Forever Oceans
Mathew Goldsborough is software geek turned aquaculturist. As Chief Technology Officer of Forever Oceans, Mathew is responsible for the long term strategy and vision for technical product development. Mathew leads a global team of talented engineers on the quest to change the way the world grows fish. Prior to Forever Oceans, Mathew worked at Lockheed Martin on programs spanning multiple domains including weapon control system, space situational awareness, and cyber security. He has also built multiple small businesses focused web development, search engine optimization, and affiliate marketing.

Neil Sims

MSc (Zool, UNSW), Founder/CEO, Ocean Era Inc, Kona, Hawai’i
Neil A. Sims is Founder and CEO of Ocean Era, Inc., in Kona, Hawai’i, working in applied research for marine finfish such as kampachi and mahimahi, herbivorous reef fish, and tropical macroalgae, and exploring microbial biodigestion of macroalgae. Neil has founded commercial offshore kampachi farms in Hawaii and Mexico. He led the Velella projects researching the use of an untethered, offshore ‘drifter pen’ and an unmanned net-pen. Neil sits on the Aquaculture Stewardship Council’s Technical Advisory Group, and is a NELHA Boardmember. He holds a B.Sc.(Marine Biology) from James Cook University, in Queensland, and a M.Sc.(Zoology) from University of New South Wales, Australia.

Patrick Takahashi

Professor of Engineering and Director of Renewable Energy at the University of Hawaii
Professor of Engineering and Director of Renewable Energy at the University of Hawaii. Editor of the Journal of Energy Engineering, author of five books, reporter for the Huffington Post, drafted original legislation in OTEC and hydrogen for the U.S. Senate, and published the first paper on the Blue Revolution.

Shaun Moss

PhD, Executive Director, Oceanic Institute of HPU
Dr. Shaun Moss received his doctoral degree in Zoology from the University of Hawaii in 1993. Dr. Moss worked in eastern Indonesia as a Fulbright Scholar, and returned to Hawaii in 1994 as Associate Professor in the Marine Sciences Department at Hawaii Pacific University. From 1997 - 2009, Dr. Moss served as Director of the Shrimp Department at Oceanic Institute (OI). From 2009 - 2012, Dr. Moss served as Vice President of Research and Development at OI and as Director of the USDA-funded U.S. Marine Shrimp Farming Program. Dr. Moss is author/co-author on 60+ manuscripts, book chapters, and conference proceedings on shrimp aquaculture, and has worked on aquaculture projects in China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam.

William Spencer

Founder Hawaii Oceanic Technology, Inc., Principal in MEG joint venture, co-inventor
Bill Spencer is lead Principal of The Mariculture Evolution Group (MEG), a joint venture formed with Phil Dobson (formerly Aquaculture Evolution Inc.). Bill has been the CEO of Hawaii Oceanic Technology, Inc., since 2006 until 2016 shepherding the company through environmental permitting and patenting processes. He is an experienced technology entrepreneur, an angel investor and a senior mentor for a top 20 venture accelerator. He is named as co-inventor on patents relating to untethered, remote control deep ocean mariculture.
