TEDxByronBayWomen celebrates the power of women and girls to be creators and change-makers. Join us on Sunday October 23rd at the Byron Theatre for an afternoon overflowing with ideas worth sharing!

TEDxWomen is an exciting opportunity to help move the conversation about the power of girls and women in a meaningful way. TEDxWomen is open to everyone interested in speaking or attending, inclusive of all identities across the gender spectrum.

Speakers include: Alexx Stuart, Jacqui Lewis, Nikki Parkinson, Jessica Maguire, Alexandra Hudson, Claire O’Rourke, Imogen Kelly, Mindy Woods and Hanabeth Luke. Performances by Margaret Curtis, Sprung Theatre and more soon to be announced!

Alexandra Hudson

Comedian
Alexandra is the 2022 joint Raw Comedy Competition winner. She shares entertaining little musings about her experiences as a disabled woman and her observations about the mostly foreign non-disabled world she lives in; she finds joy in tipping things on their head.

Alexx Stuart

Educator and Change Agent, Author of bestseller 'Low Tox Life'
Alexx Stuart is an educator and change agent who founded Low Tox Life in 2010 after seeing the lack of transparency in our food system, personal care and cleaning products. She's built a movement that's non-judgmental, positive and says low tox peeps are a force to be reckoned with! A columnist for Wellbeing magazine, she is also a sought-after speaker and consultant to businesses committing to change for good.

Chelsea Watego

Indigenist health humanities scholar, prolific writer and public intellectual.
Chelsea Watego (formerly Bond) is a Munanjahli and South Sea Islander woman with over 20 years of experience working within Indigenous health as a health worker and researcher. She is currently Professor of Indigenous Health, and Executive Director of QUT’s Carumba Institute. She is a prolific writer and public intellectual, having written for IndigenousX, NITV, The Guardian, and The Conversation. She is a founding board member of Inala Wangarra, an Indigenous community development association within her community, a Director of the Institute for Collaborative Race Research, and was one half of the Wild Black Women radio/podcast show, but most importantly, she is also a proud mum to five beautiful children. Her debut book Another Day in the Colony, published by UQ Press, was released in November 2021 and met with critical acclaim.

Claire O'Rourke

Author and Environmental Activist
Claire O’Rourke is an author, environmentalist and advocate, with two decades working in journalism, communications and social change campaigns across Australia and around the globe. Claire helps people and organisations take action on global warming, currently as Australia Energy Transformation Program Co-Director at The Sunrise Project. Claire's first book, Together We Can, was published by Allen & Unwin in 2022.

Erin Lovell Verinder

Herbalist, Nutritionist and Author
Erin Lovell Verinder is an Australian trained Herbalist, Nutritionist and Author of two well loved plant medicine titles, Plants for the People and The Plant Clinic. Erins work is to reconnect the people with the plants! Walking the plant path, she is a woman in tune with the natural world. On a full hearted mission to educate and inspire others to heal with the rhythms of nature, through the bounty of plant medicine. Erin runs a thriving clinical practice, alongside mentoring students and emerging practitioners, she teaches the love language of the plants within her communities and writes from the wild green island of Tasmania.

Hanabeth Luke

Dr Hanabeth Luke is a scientist, a mother, a surfer, a politician, a singer, a bombing survivor and a writer.
Hanabeth is passionate about regenerative capacity in rural and regional Australia. Building social, environmental and economic resilience reduces vulnerability to weather fluctuations and increases community wellbeing. She is the Coordinator of the Southern Cross University Courses in Regenerative Agriculture and teaches ‘Building Resilience in a Changing Climate, through drought, fire and flood’. In addition, she ran as a community independent in the 2022 federal election. Having survived the Bali bombing of 2002, she knows there is no time to waste. As Socrates himself asked, what is the purpose of life if not to contribute to what is good and right? Her interests include surfing, travel, volunteering with Marine Rescue and being a mother of two little ones.

Jacqui Lewis

A writer, educator, facilitator and speaker on clarity and high grade living.
Jacqui co-founded The Broad Place, a global school sharing ancient knowledge and modern neuroscience, tools and experiences for higher grade living. She teaches self leadership with a focus on clarity, creativity and consciousness and bringing a grounded, innovative and resilient approach to the lives of her students and clients. A writer, educator, facilitator and speaker on clarity and high grade living, Jacqui teaches around the world, and hosts immersive retreats globally. The Broad Place has an expansive offering of modern education with in person experiences and online teachings. Departing the world of advertising, marketing and branding, Jacqui helps people who are how she herself used to be; stressed, anxious and overwhelmed, keen to change their lives for the better.

Jessica Maguire BHSci, MPhysio

Integrative Physiotherapist
Jessica Maguire holds a Bachelor of Health Science degree and a Masters of Physiotherapy. Her post graduate study includes the fields of neuroscience, neuroplasticity, brain-heart biofeedback, brain-body medicine and transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation. As a TEDx speaker and lecturer, she believes that knowledge is power. Jessica teaches a long-term, sustainable, profoundly transformative methodology of nervous system repair, empowering students to step into the driver’s seat of their own health and wellbeing. Her aim is to create true freedom from nervous system dysregulation and all the painful side effects that it causes.

Nikki Parkinson

Divorce Coach
Nikki Parkinson is a family law expert, divorce coach and founder of the Divorce & Separation Hub an online community and support platform for soon-to-be-singles. Nikki is the host of the Divorce and Separation Podcast and the creator of the online divorce course Unmarry Me!: a no bullsh*t guide to filing for divorce, knowing your rights and reclaiming your freedom. In September 2022, Nikki launched The Separation Summit, a virtual and on-demand divorce conference featuring talks and panels from global experts, legal advisors and thriving divorce stories. The Divorce and Separation Hub is Australia’s go-to on how to support separations with heartfelt guidance and advice that dodges legal jargon overload, served up with gentle honesty about how divorce is messy, but entirely manageable.
