Bringing the community together from across Shanghai and beyond, from Lingang to Tongiang, TEDxYouth@YCYWShanghai aims to inspire discussion, sharing of ideas, creative and innovative works. With talks from young people, creative and artistic unique performances, exhibitions of innovative ideas, and opportunities for learning and sharing, the event will be a place for the whole family. The venue also hosts 2 restaurants and a cafe, and is well positioned on the HuangPu River with spectacular views of up and down the river area.

Amelia is 13 years old and has lived in Shanghai, China for over 10 years. She loves playing soccer and enjoys reading young adult fiction novels, especially dystopian books. Amelia also likes to play the piano and hang out with friends after school.

Andy Chen

Andy is 13 years old, born during the Olympic Games in 2008 in Hangzhou. However, he is not that sporty! Instead, he prefers writing or thinking of wonderful new ideas (usually during physical education classes) which he dare not promise to be useful. Andy has been interested in designing new ways of living and, through building prototypes of his ideas, hopes to inspire new ways of thinking about one's home.

Angelos Maroulis

Angelos currently studies in Shanghai, China, and is finishing his seventh year. He is an ambitious creator of small crafts. He loves books, science, and engineering. Angelos spends most of his spare time making craft with cardboard and electronics, also writing code for games. His proudest project so far is a biker’s helmet that intends to save the lives of millions.

Ann is a student who has been studying in Shanghai, China. She is passionate about the environment and exploring ways to better understand the connection between people groups and their relationships and hence their impact on the environment.

Anna Metz

Anna Metz, a 17 year old student from Germany, is currently in Shanghai, China. Despite holding a German passport, Anna has lived in China all her life, and loves to connect to people in daily life and build relationships with peers from all over the world. She is a curious individual, being very much intrigued by questions regarding social, philosophical and economic issues. Anna's eagerness to learn more about different cultures has led to her continuous involvement in Model United Nations, which has nurtured her global awareness and strengthened her understanding regarding inter-cultural phenomena.

Arnav Patel

Arnav is a student currently studying in Shanghai, China. He is interested in technology and particularly how gamification can be used to improve engagement in schools. Arnav's talk explores how games can be used to positively impact learning.

Austin Chang

Austin is 13 years old and originally from Australia. His hobbies included: playing multiple sports, playing video games, and singing. Austin values spending time with friends, talking to different people and, most importantly, spending time with his family.

Bryson Patterson

Bryson was born in Louisiana and grew up there until he was 6 years old. This shaped his passion for sports and seafood and the development of close bonds with family and friends. After kindergarten, he moved to Texas, gaining new friends at school and growing a love for American Football, which he still plays today. As part of a family that travels, he relocated to Abu Dhabi, then to China. Despite the challenges of moving a lot, Bryson has gained a lot of friends and great experiences along the way.

Carmen Tong

With a honours specialist degree in Environmental Management from University of Toronto, she is passionate about sustainable development and combating climate change. With her experience in experiential marketing, content creation and events management, she has developed valuable skill sets to help brands build audience, culture and community. While she is currently obtaining her MBA from University of Birmingham, Carmen has also extended her work and contribution into mentoring prospective undergrad students, and preparing them for society.

With a rich corporate experience, David held several executive positions in multinational companies, but trying to find a fulfilling job, he changed his career path 5 times, worked on 5 different continents and obtained 4 Masters of Science. David has been working in Shanghai as a psychological counsellor, researcher, blogger, speaker and lecturer for 5 years. Currently, he is working with YCYW on topics related to wellbeing, mental health and psychology.

David Qiu

David is from Tongxiang, China. He likes physical chemistry, history, robotics and programming. David likes to do all kinds of experiments and designing new inventions. He likes to take things apart and put them back together. David has won awards in robot and science competitions.

In daily life, Isabella loves doing sports such as soccer and basketball. She loves how sport can help to relax people, but also sees how team sports help to promote relationships, social development and teamwork skills.

Jerry enjoys showing people how he can turn something as plain as paper into a cascade of different ideas and unique combinations of real-world objects. He started drawing when he was only four years old, now with nine years of continuous improvement and discovery, he can now draw almost anything imagined or unimagined.
