In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Robert Clegg

Mr. Clegg launched the game-based learning revolution in 2004 with the release of the first action adventure video game to teach algebra. It achieved the impossible; it turned learning algebra into something exciting. The game had over 7 million players in more than 40 School Districts across the U.S. Mr. Clegg was the Head of Development and Lead Game Designer on a project to create a gamified simulation of the Immune System. The project was funded by the Gates Foundation in 2011, a full eight years before the pandemic. His talk today is about the problems, challenges, and obstacles that lead to the eventual discovery of how science fiction is essential for the future of learning.

Sharon Monaghan

Sharon Monaghan has been a teacher and a school leader for 28 years, working in schools around the world. Sharon has spent many years enhancing the life-chances of children. She knows that innovative teaching enables a pupil to thrive - the opposite of today’s cookie- cutter syllabus. In her TEDx talk she shares her vision of how school leaders can better prepare ALL children, no matter their backgrounds, for the fast-moving and unpredictable world of work.

Shuo Chen

Shuo Chen is a General Partner at IOVC, where she focuses on early stage venture investments in Silicon Valley with a focus on future of work and enterprise/SaaS. She is also Faculty at UC Berkeley and Singularity University. Shuo is appointed by California Governor Gavin Newson to serve as 1 of 13 voting members on California's Mental Health Commission (as the first Asian American Commissioner), which includes overseeing ~$2.6 billion annually in state budget and advising the Governor or the Legislature on mental health policy. In her venture role, Shuo has invested in companies now acquired by Goldman Sachs, Ford, Caterpillar, Binance and Dialpad, as well as now unicorns including Boom, Checkr, Grubmarket, Instacart and Rescale. She has helped portfolio companies close deals with Amazon, Apple, Google, Mercedes-Benz and NASA among others, as well as scaled portfolio companies into Europe and Asia. Prior, Shuo worked at Goldman Sachs in investment banking, where she worked with clients including Alibaba and Tencent, as well as represented the firm on the Board of Women in Finance. Before that, Shuo was at PwC, where she worked on Google’s $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola and LinkedIn’s $119 million acquisition of SlideShare. Shuo has also co-authored one of the leading books on financial regulations published by Cambridge University Press in 2019, and sits on the Advisory Board of Forbes China, where she advises on content and awards for Asian Americans in North America.

Tiffani Fest

Tiffani Fest is an award winning actress, global activist, and public speaker. When she began her global philanthropy efforts in 2015, her passion for advocating on behalf of oppressed women around the world began to forge a path for her public speaking to emerge. She is currently an Ambassador for New Light India, a non profit operating in the largest red light districts of Kolkata, whose mission is to educate and rehabilitate women & girls, thus ending the cycle of 2nd generation prostitution. She also anchors and emcees a Women’s Leadership Conference in Rajasthan India called Utsava Maa, or “Great Mother,” uniting powerful female thinkers from the east and the west in workshops on leadership & global sustainability. Unable to return to India due to the pandemic, Tiffani wrote her TED talk during 2020 lockdown. In it she shares how she transformed her own greatest suffering as a sexual abuse survivor, into her greatest mission to advocate on behalf of women victims of sexual violence around the world. Her goal is to inspire not only women, but all people experiencing a great suffering in their lives, that they too can use it to transform and elevate the lives of those suffering around them.
