In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Bengt Karlsson

Professor + author + Manchester United supporter

Bengt is 65 years old. He's from the western Norwegian city Bergen, but lives in Oslo. Bengt had his PhD in Nursing Science from the University of Oslo. He is trained as a mental health nurse and a family therapist and has worked with mental health issues clinically since 1985. Bengt is the leader of The Center of mental health and substance abuse at USN and has been working on studies related to these topics since 2000. His research areas has been within Open Dialogue in network meetings, Recovery-oriented services, user participation in developing helpful help, in services and in research and finally users experiences of what can be helpful help. He has been working with internationally known researchers in this field focusing on recovery in different contexts and approaches. Bengt has authored and co-authored over 150 scientific publications on these topics and has giving numerous presentations at national and international conferences and on popular-scientific events.
