In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alexander Plummer

Student - European School of Brussels III
Sometimes, what we need most is a fresh start, so we break off from our current habits to start over again. Other times, new beginnings aren’t something we ask for. Five years ago, I lost my father, and it would be impossible to exaggerate the effect it’s had on my life.

Barbara Holzwarth

Teacher - European School of Brussels III
My name is Barbara Holzwarth and I am in my third year of teaching English, ethics and economics at EEBIII. That means I am relatively new to the school but not to teaching. Before moving to Brussels, I worked in Germany for eight years as an English teacher. Most recently, at TU Dortmund University as an English pedagogy lecturer and standardized assessment specialist. I was born and raised in rural Randolph, Vermont, USA.

Carlota Martínez Van De Sanden

Student - European School of Brussels III
Hello! My name is Carlota Martínez van de Sanden and I am a last-year student at the European School of Brussels III. I am Dutch and Spanish but have lived my whole life in Brussels. This year’s theme inspired me to share a story in which I address topics such as relationships with food, the psychology behind it, the “diet culture” in which today’s society lives in, and much more.

Julie Gardinal

Student - European School of Brussels III

Jurgen Willems

Principal Inspector - Police of the Capital Brussels-Ixelles

Magali Vandemeulebroucke

Social worker - Planning Familial d'Auderghem

Student - European School of Brussels III

Student - European School of Brussels III
My name is Paul Küpper and I’m a 17-year-old student at the European School of Brussels III. After being part of the TEDxYouth@EEB3 team for two years, I decided I wanted to have a go at being a speaker myself. The theme ‘New Beginnings’ made me think of the one beginning we all go through in life: our childhood. It reminded me of how fragile it is and how easily things can go wrong without the rest of the world realizing it.

Simon Brigode

Student - European School of Brussels III

Stella Kyriakides

European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety
A Cypriot psychologist and politician, on December 2019, Ms. Kyriakides became the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety. During the COVID-19 crisis, she has been leading the Commission’s work to coordinate the EU’s health response and support Member States to tackle the pandemic. She is responsible for the EU’s Vaccine Strategy in order to procure safe and effective vaccines for all EU Member States and Europe’s broader neighborhood.

Thibaud Goemans

Student - European School of Brussels III

Wulf Kaspar Bulling

Philosophy teacher - European School of Brussels III
I am a philosophy teacher at EEB3 and would call myself a philo-philosopher, a lover of philosophy, since I am not much of a philosopher myself, though I spent many years studying philosophy in Berlin (Free University Berlin, European College of Liberal Arts, Humboldt University) and Leuven (KU Leven). The philosophical issue that interests me most is the relationship of regular, non-philosophic life and philosophy.

Zofia Leib

Student - European School of Brussels III
My name is Zofia – I am a born and raised European going to the S6 German section at EEB3. I often feel the need to reinvent my life from the group up – to have a stable sense of identity, to be healthy, and be surrounded by healthy people as well. To become an almost utopian version of myself.
