Theme: Urgency, Transformation, and Action

We know that the power of an idea is multiplied exponentially when we talk about it. That is why ISSP is hosting TEDxISSP, a COUNTDOWN event, during Earth Month 2021.

Across three sessions — covering the Urgency of the moment, the Transformation needed, and the Action that it will take to solve the crisis — we’ll hear from some of the world's most prominent climate leaders in a series of short TED videos. Each session will include a live breakout room discussion with Honorees from the ISSP Hall of Fame who are luminaries in the sustainability profession.

The pairing between COUNTDOWN and ISSP is a natural fit: As the leading organization of sustainability professionals working to advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals across businesses, governments, education, and communities, ISSP convenes the change-makers who devise and deliver on solutions across sectors and around the world every day. Now, as part of the global COUNTDOWN initiative, we will bring our experts’ visions directly to you — and, just as importantly, you will have the chance to share your insights in dialogue with the sustainability community during TEDxISSP.

She is an interdisciplinary economist and political theorist and contributor to the creation of the ethical investment industry. Hazel is also a world renowned futurist, a worldwide syndicated columnist, consultant on sustainable development, and author of numerous books. John is also co-founder of SustainAbility, where he remains a non-executive member of the board and of Environmental Data Services. John is recognized as a world authority on corporate responsibility, sustainable development and innovation, and is renowned for introducing the phrase “triple bottom line” into the sustainability lexicon. John has written or co-authored 18 books; his latest, Tomorrow's Bottom Line: The B Team Playbook for Market Gamechangers, will be released in 2013.

Liz Donnelly

Writer and award-winning cartoonist with The New Yorker Magazine, where she has been drawing cartoons and writing about culture and politics for forty years.

Liza Donnelly is an award winning cartoonist and writer for The New Yorker Magazine, The New York Times, Medium, CBS News and CNN. Donnelly is also the innovator of a form of visual journalism, covering news and cultural events by drawing them in real time. Donnelly travels the world speaking to conferences, universities, and has served as a cultural envoy for the U.S. State Department. She delivered a popular TED talk that was translated into 38 languages and viewed online over 1.4 million times. The author of 17 books, Donnelly’s new book, Very Funny Ladies, will be published in 2021.

Mathis Wackernagel, Co-Creator of the Ecological Footprint and President of Global Footprint Network, an international sustainability think-tank. Global Footprint Network focuses on bringing about a sustainable human economy in which all can live well within the means of one planet. It proposes the Ecological Footprint, which measures how much nature we use and how much nature we have, as a tool for bringing ecological limits to the center of decision-making everywhere. Mathis has worked on sustainability on six continents and lectured at more than a hundred universities.

Over the last decade Susan has built Global Footprint Network into one of the leading and most respected scientific organizations in the world addressing global ecological limits. She continues to lead the overall strategic direction of Global Footprint Network and now advises governments and financial institutions on incorporating ecological risk into financial risk analysis and government policy. Prior to launching Global Footprint Network, Susan founded the pioneering sustainability consulting firm Natural Strategies, advising such companies as Mitsubishi Electric, Genencor, and Lowes.
