In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Adam Kashlak

Adam B Kashlak is an assistant professor of statistics in the Mathematical and Statistical Sciences department at the University of Alberta. His research lies at the intersection between mathematics and statistics. He completed his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2017, and prior to that worked as an applied mathematician/statistician for the US Department of Defense. Always looking to talk about statistics, Adam is the current editor-in-chief of the Statistical Society of Canada's Liaison newsletter, runs a burgeoning YouTube channel, and won the New Investigator Presentation Award from the SSC in 2019 and the Young Statisticians Writing Competition from the RSS in 2016.

Christian Felske

Christian Felske, Ph.D., P. Eng. is the Director of Renewable Energy Systems at the City of Edmonton. He has over 15 years of progressive leadership experience in municipal and provincial government settings in Canada and Germany. Since 2016, Christian has been working on developing the Renewable Energy portfolio for the city, including leading the development of the Blatchford Renewable Energy utility and the Downtown District Energy initiative.

Kaitlyn Watson

Dr Kaitlyn Watson is an internationally recognised disaster pharmacist researcher and the Founder and CEO of Disaster Pharmacy Solutions which offers disaster preparedness and education to the pharmacy workforce. Kaitlyn currently works as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the EPICORE Centre, Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta focusing on pharmacy practice research. Dr Watson has previously been a consultant for the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe with a focus on public health emergency management and she is the co-chair of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine (WADEM) Primary Healthcare Special Interest Group. Dr Watson is an Australian registered pharmacist, living in North America.

Madeline Toubiana

Dr Madeline Toubiana is Assistant Professor of Strategy, Entrepreneurship and Management at the University of Alberta and the A.F. Collins Chair of Business at the University of Alberta. She has been titled the Western Academy of Management Ascendant Scholar and was a selected member of #thinklist30, a list of the 30 most influential female scholars on social media around issues of responsible business. She has dedicated her career to exploring processes of social change, with a specific focus on entrepreneurship, emotions and extreme stigmatization. She has worked with those just released from prison struggling with addiction, taxi-drivers facing increased stigma due to the arrival of Uber, immigrants, and people living with debilitating illness. Having worked with female and transgender innovators in the sex industry for the past seven years, she wants to share their stories. These workers are changing the sex industry from within, and we want to spread their stories beyond the borders of the industry.

Victoria Tapankov

Victoria Tapankov is currently studying Human Ecology at the University of Alberta. She hopes to increase awareness about the long term impact of anonymous sperm donation by sharing her journey of finding her biological father. She wants to advocate for laws that treat donor conceived individuals less like products and more like people - who have the right to know who they are and where they came from, just like everyone else.
