How can you break boundaries? How can you redefine what you've already known, or perhaps learn something new? He is an 8th grader, who is interested in becoming a professional tennis player. Additionally, he also produces music in his free time. His talk will about moving to different countries in his life while not giving up on his dreams.

Alexander Beer

Alexander Beer is a sophomore at BASIS Tucson North. In his free time, he enjoys leading the Junior Classical League and reading about Archaeology and the University of Oxford. His talk today is about the evolution of the Roman Army.

Andrew Pongratz

Andy Pongratz is a current junior this year at BTN. He is obsessed with reading, talking, and meeting different people. He enjoys theatre and the arts, and he is very involved in Student Council, Mock Trial, and other activities at BTN. Andy's talk focuses on the different lessons that leaders learn when leading others toward a common goal.

Andrew Wei

Andrew has an unhealthy obsession with artificial intelligence and hopes to merge with machine to become the technological singularity. His secondary interests include Rome, enjoying life, and brainstorming ways to finesse power from the universe through some loophole in the laws of physics. His talk is, predictably, about the state of AI research today, as well as the glaring safety issues that have yet to be solved in the field.

She is a sophomore who loves reading, theatre, and music. Her talk is about Greek tragedies and what they depict about humanity

Gayatri Kaimal

Student

Gayatri Kaimal is a sophomore at BASIS Tucson North. In her free time, if she can find any, she enjoys relaxing with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book; going on really slow runs; and sneaking treats to her mildly overweight dog. She enjoys voicing her opinions loudly, and what better medium for that, than her talk, which concerns what she feels are the issues with trying to be an activist on social media.

Lucy Scott

A junior who despite living in Tucson for 10+ years uses "y'all" way too frequently. If she's not furiously writing a paper for a last minute due date, she'll likely talk your ear off about something and then buy you Dutch Bros as a thank you. Today, her talk explores how she broke past her old ways of thinking and how you can too.

Priti Kari is a freshman at BASIS Tucson North. She is an active member in Model UN and Mock Trial and is the Vice President of the National Junior Honor Society. She enjoys reading and practices Indian classical dance in her free time. Today, she will talk about her experience with her culture and how she came to balance the Western culture and her Indian heritage.

Rahul Vedantham

Rahul Vedantham is a Junior, who, apart from writing his own music, has a passion for literally every sport under the sun and thinks that living in Boston for many years is a personality trait. His talk is about how modern-day music theory lacks a real cultural perspective and why our music education is inherently flawed.

Sofia Melnychuck

Student

Sofia Melnychuck is a junior at BASIS Tucson North and author/illustrator of the book, Brain Power: Neurology for Kids!, part of a series of children’s books in development that address difficult and complex medical topics. Sofia has given several workshops for young audiences on the topic of neurology, stressing the importance of taking care of one’s brain. She is the National Co-Director of ThinkSTEAM—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that encourages and empowers girls to enter STEM fields through the arts, and in her spare time, volunteers at a BIO5 research lab at The University of Arizona. Her talk explores the issues surrounding traumatic brain injuries and invisible injuries.
