In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Deven Rodriguez

Deven Rodriguez is a storyteller who believes that it is his mission to Speak Life and Hope into a world that can sometimes look so dark. Deven’s childhood was riddled with experiences of racism, bullying, neglect, abuse, and a true sense of hopelessness and despair. Despite his traumatic and heart-wrenching situation, Deven persisted and never gave up. His greatest success as a child was being nominated the middle school president by the same kids that had put him through hell and back the previous six years of his life. He believes that no matter what you are going through if you are willing to just “outlast the pain” just one more day, triumph and victory are inevitable. Deven regards his childhood as his biggest blessing as it enabled him to see the true power in the “never quit” attitude. As he grew older, he attended St. John’s University after being rejected from nearly every College that he applied to. Despite being labeled as “not smart enough” to get into his dream colleges, Deven made a promise to his grandmother that radically changed his life and enabled him to earn a cumulative 4.0 GPA, be ranked a Top 100 Business student in America by the famous “Poets and Quants” business school magazine and be featured in Forbes, Yahoo Finance, and many other magazines. Despite the accolades, Deven believes that his biggest accomplishment was discovering who Deven was.
