In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alizée Ccm

Founder of Zero Waste Shanghai + Circular Economy Expert + Pioneer in Environmental & Sustainable Strategies
Alizee Ccm, the Founder of Zero Waste Shanghai performs an anecdote on the importance of listening to the voice calling her to explore the world and to spread the notion of sustainability. Since a child, Alizee has had a heart for exploration and a deep passion for the wellbeing of Earth and its human inhabitants. By following her dream, she was able to reach her goal of becoming a pioneer in environmental and sustainable strategies in Shanghai. As an environmentalist, she succeeded in building a company despite the criticism she was met with along the way and now guides companies toward becoming sustainably certified. She shares her philosophy of trusting and pulling through with one’s gut feeling.

Daniel Chen

17-year-old Certified Nursing Assistant + Long-term Care Personnel
Daniel, a junior at the SMIC Private School, shares his experience and opinion on long-term elderly care, specifically dementia and Alzheimer's. He grew up witnessing his family's hardships in caregiving for his two demented grandparents. Through government-affiliated training, he was able to become a registered nursing assistant and long-term care personnel with a basic life support accreditation. Having taken care of over 70 elders and his grandma himself, he is eager to speak about his thoughts on the aggravating issue of elderly care through the lens of a teenager.

Eric Kuo

Graduating High School Senior
Eric is a senior at the SMIC Private School and a public speaker. Constantly questioning things in the complex world of infinite choice, he learns through embracing discomfort and seeking change. It is clear to him: never to tell stories as the bystander.

Jen Muir

English Language Learner Specialist at Concordia International School Shanghai
Jen Muir, originally from the Midwestern United States, moved to Shanghai in August of 2009 to teach at SMIC Private School. Currently, she is an English Language Learner Specialist at Concordia International School Shanghai. She and her husband, Ryan, have two precious sons, Gavin (9) and Elijah (6). In addition to being a wife, mom, and educator, Jen is fiercely dedicated to the cause of advocating for those in modern-day slavery. She has spent the past five Decembers putting on a dress each day to use her voice and advocate, as a participant of Dressember. Jen and Ryan have collectively raised close to $50,000 USD for this cause. They have also shared the message of modern-day slavery with thousands. She understands that a small “yes!” can yield great impact.

Oscar Su

Graduating High School Senior
Oscar, a senior at the SMIC Private School, shares his four years of high school experience. He reflects on modern society's tendency to avoid the state of perturbation and contends that constant challenges and discomfort in life eventually leads to confidence, happiness, and growth. In his speech, Oscar shows how stepping outside of one's comfort zone can bring life-changing outcomes.

Samuela Ma'u

Co Editor in Chief at Sharks Scholar + Advocate for Social Reform
Samuela Ma’u is currently a sophomore at SMIC-I Private School. Being a Polynesian-American residing in Shanghai, Samuela has experienced the benefits of understanding and seeing many global events through different lenses. Recently, he has been intrigued by how people are advocating for different problems that are occurring in the world. He is a huge advocate for spreading awareness and helping to educate others on different problems but believes that what is being done now isn’t the best method. Samuela wants to share about how we should all be the drivers of advocacy in the digital era, but also how to do it effectively.
