This event occurred on
April 17, 2021
Jeju, Jejudo
South Korea

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Caroline Kim

Wisdom & Resilience: Our Springboard Toward Fulfillment
Growing up, Caroline's parents constantly reminded her that she "needed to become more of a mature person.” And as she grew, she started to question: is maturity really the ultimate goal in life? And what exactly constitutes maturity? Such questions brought her to consider wisdom and resilience as a more fulfilling alternative. A current junior at the Korea International School, Jeju campus, she has experienced formative circumstances, including opportunities and challenges that the Korean public school system did not provide. Through this experience she has gained diverse life skills and lessons. Her research brought her to the work of Dweck, King, and Staudinger, leading her to determine that maturity means nothing without resilience and wisdom.

Chloe Park

Cooperative Responsibility in Times of Crisis
From a young age, Chloe has felt driven to write and talk to persuade others to enact positive change. She realized how powerful words can be and is fascinated by their lasting impact on individuals. Even now, writing and debating are some of her favorite undertaking, both in and out of school. She feels both excited and proud when her voice makes people laugh or inspires action. Her dream is to become an ambassador for South Korea, so that she can continue to represent and influence. She believes that learning English and practicing public speaking will help her reach this objective. Her greatest motivation is her commitment to progress and her fervent desire to develop into a better version of herself each day. In this talk, she will address the importance of cooperation and how it has influenced the world during the COVID-19 outbreak. Even as she is only in the eighth grade, her insight and confidence make this talk worthy of your attention.

Finding a Shell that Fits: Motivating Toward Personal Growth

Research led her to unpack the nuances of intrinsic and extrinsic motivators as a means to driving performance.

Junho Son

Systems Surrounding Organ Transplantation
A Junior student at Korea International School Jeju Campus, Junho Son is captivated by the daily interactions with the world around him. Seven years ago, his father needed a liver transplant, wherein the fate of his family became utterly tethered to systems that would either preserve or extinguish the increasingly deteriorating health of a loved one. This inspired his keen interest in logistics and ethics that govern the economics surrounding human organ donation.

Serin Jeon
