In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ashkan Novin

Ph.D. candidate - Karate World Champion
Ashkan Novin is a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Connecticut. He is a US national karate medalist since 2018 and the World champion in 2009 South Africa. As an athlete and a student, Ashkan is passionate about training and learning karate with others. He was selected as a top rank karate athlete in the state of Massachusetts and Texas in 2019. He is a national referee of the US karate federation now. After 21 years of training karate, Ashkan has over 50 national and international awards and is interested in pursuing learning and instructing karate to share what he has gained with others, especially the next generations of athletes.

Faith Crittenden

4th yr. UCONN Medical Student
Faith is a graduating fourth year medical student at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine entering into Pediatrics. She is one of the co-authors on Beyond Declarative Advocacy: Moving Organized Medicine And Policy Makers From Position Statements To Anti-Racist Praxis as well as the American Medical Association’s historic policy, Racism is a Public Health Threat.

Jonathan Williams

Mathematics/Statistics Undergrad @ UCONN CLAS
Jonathan Williams is a data scientist and a researcher of human behavior focused on empathy, intelligence theory, and analytical psychology. He is the author of “A Complete Human”, which is a guide on how to integrate the unique traits that have been repressed from your childhood. Jonathan studied Mathematics & Statistics at UConn and is deeply involved in understanding the intersection of psychology and data science. He hopes to continue his research in understanding the roots of social behavior and its impact on generational myopia. During his time as a UConn student, Jonathan started and ran a vegan Italian restaurant out of his apartment.
