"Like many, I have had trouble properly coping with feelings of stress and anxiety in both middle school and high school. It took a long time to fully embrace it, but I have fully made acquaintance with this part of myself, which is why I stand here ready to talk about it to whomever is willing to listen. It is why, as my life progressed through high school, I have taken more daring steps towards the fulfilment of dreams I was convinced were fully out of grasp – this being one of them. The first step in overcoming your fears to pursue any kind of goal is to recognize and accept the fact that you have fears."

"Who you empathize with, what perspective you chose to take on any given issue, and your judgement of what right and wrong is, is what makes you an individual and therefore, to answer my teacher’s initial question of “why do we study history?”, we study history to know and understand ourselves, oh and because it’s fun."

Hello! I’m Aylin, and I am in my last year at BSB. I wouldn’t say that psychology is my main passion in life, but it surely is a part of my family. What I do is music, I am a songwriter and lead singer of a band called Puzzles, and I also compose personal projects, as well as collaborative projects with various artists. As an artist, it is essential to keep a healthy mental state, and keep the bad days under control, the schedule is always chaotic and demanding, thus in order to keep up with my busy life, I have to find ways to combat minor day to day obstacles without disrupting my flow.

"No current system of making research available to the public is perfect. This does not however mean that the status quo is our best option. Assigning importance to published data is always going to be a subjective process, but science is not as restricted as it has been historically. With the expansion of certain fields, quality is increasingly viewed as more important than output and rightly so. "

"To all the inspired youth, continue using platforms, making your voice heard, taking example from president Nasheed. Because although his voice only brought about a small victory on a global scale, for Maldivians this victory is incomparable, and many little victories lead to global change."

"When you think of art, the word timeless tends to spring to mind. A painting that sits in a gallery, painted 200 years ago but admired the same today. A piece of poetry whose author is no longer alive, but their work lives on. An impactful film that can be watched over and over. Timeless. Unaffected by passing time. Does this concept define art? Does artwork have to be admired for years after it was created?"

Sport is a lifestyle. I started fencing when I was eight, and now, eight years later, it is one of the things that made me into the person I am today. It has taught me how to face new challenges, and that failure is a part of growth. A common obstacle that many athletes face is the fear of not fulfilling their expectations. One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learnt is that no matter how hard you train or want something, if you are not mentally capable of overcoming the barriers you place on yourself, you won’t reach your full potential.

"Learning something new because that subject might become your newest passion, trying something new, outside of your comfort zone, merely to see how that experience makes you feel will add a spice to your life, a spice we all need in these isolation defined times. It is also the chance to discover connections between two things that were never connected; indeed, it is the chance to better yourself, one singular moment of discovery at a time."

"No on goes undefeated! If I were to ask Jeff Bezos, Cristiano Ronaldo, LeBron James, or whoever else you want, not one of them has never had a failure. I can guarantee you that. You cannot go through life undefeated. However, as Babe Ruth used to say, “it’s really hard to someone who never gives up.” You be that person! Be that person who, when everyone thought you were down and out, you just spring out again and shock everyone! Be that person!"

Veda .

BSB student
An amateur writer. The topics I write about probably may not be unique but my writing is unique because I breathe my life, induce my personality and pour my voice and emotions into my writing.

Yasemin .

BSB student
"It’s definitely unethical, how some data is used to target certain groups of people, however, it’s not manipulation and it’s not lies. It’s illegal to use misinformation in ads, therefore all information consumers receive, is factually correct, and therefore it’s not brainwashing. Consumers have the right and ability to choose what they buy, and what they don’t. It’s not the advertisers’ responsibility to make sure people feel good about themselves, but rather it is to get people to buy their products. So the advertising industry reflects each society’s values, rather than creating new ones, which means that if there’s a problem with society, it’s not caused solely by advertising, but rather the individuals in the society."
