Theme: Taking <digital> Chances

The theme of our TEDx will be „Taking Chances“.

We believe, that taking chances could be a lifechanging experience for many people – very often towards a positive future. However, this might not be as easy as it sounds as the recognition of a chance (rather than a problem) might be the first challenge for many of us. And actively taking chances almost always includes a change as well, for persons, for organizations or even for society.

So, taking chances also requires courage and brevity to walk an unbeaten path or encounter uncharted territories. Taking chances often leads to unexpected innovations and new ideas, which makes us believe that it is a powerful human ability to drive progress.

Finally, we want to highlight that providing opportunities to others is a great way to enable them “to get a chance to take a chance”. With our selection of speakers, we will demonstrate that there are chances in the field of technology as well as in the societal areas and within individual personal development. It will be shown, what it takes to recognize those chances and which potential outcomes could result in taking chances.

Our speakers will use their ideas to encourage and inspire to think further – in a world of chances that might look like a world of problems. Join us at the event.

Alexander Huber

Professional climber and mountaineer

In their inspiring talk they explain what makes a route a “Huber Route” and how they took the chance of combining Alpinism with Sport Climbing to open up a whole new and unknown territory. “Difficult climbing at high altitudes” is providing the chance to define and explore new horizons and the Huber Brothers will also draw relations from their climbing to creativity and art and to the aspect of exploring cultures that are connected to the mountains. Taking chances also means to cope with fears, risks and anxiety and Alexander & Thomas will provide us with insights how they are dealing with it. Climbing as brothers is surely something special but it’s also important to follow individual goals, they say.

Christoph Holz

Speaker, Lecturer, Business Angel

Christoph considers himself a nerd. As a public speaker he focusses on overcoming digital anxiety in society and achieving responsibility for IT nerds. Christoph studied rocket and computer science, is a startup founder, Silicon Valley entrepreneur, university lecturer and a real cyborg. As a business angel he invests in digitization, A.I., blockchain and co-living from Brazil to Singapore. He is known to the public as a TV expert, e.g. on CNBC, Sat1 or N-TV. During his inspiring talks with surprising anecdotes and humor he’s explaining opportunities of the new digital world. He asks whether the Digital Revolution really should be called a revolution.

Daniel Rintz

Founder Open-Explorers, Filmmaker

Daniel started his attempt to circumnavigate the world on a zero-dollar budget hoping he would find random jobs along the way to pay for his journey. His trip was an answer to his desire to get away from the mundane and the search for meaning in his life. The search for something outside of his comfort zone. To see how others embraced life, or faced death. Chased by wild elephants, caught in the cross-fire of a police-smuggler gunfight, stranded by engine trouble in a civil war zone and meeting the love of his life, Daniel’s perspective comes from the ups and downs of his extreme journey on two wheels. Sometimes it’s great to get an understanding of what coming full circle means from someone who has literally done just that.

Gemma De las Cuevas

Physicist, Assistent Professor University of Innsbruck, Austria

Gemma De las Cuevas is a theoretical physicist who loves books and movies, and more generally, knowledge and art. She lives in the middle of the Alps, in Innsbruck.

Gerhard Dust

Entrepreneur

Dr. Gerhard Dust, born 1952 in Soest, Germany, started his career in the construction business. After service in the Luftwaffe and graduation from university he followed his family tradition of working in the book industry. Being COO of the company Libri from 1991-2008 he earned an international reputation for the analysis, design and implementation of high-level automated storage and distribution systems. During these years he was also founder and general manager of the book transport company BOOXpress, member of the Board of Top Holding AG and chairman of the International Group of Book-Distributors. 2010 under the impression of the earthquake in Haiti he founded PolyCare and has won more than 20 international awards for the revolutionary PolyCare construction process in recent years.

Heike Schümann is an expert for Termination Management and works as consultant in the fields of change- and transition management. Throughout her long career she has filled a number of executive manager roles in different large companies and build up more than twenty years of business experiences in Supply Chain Management and Procurement of direct and indirect goods and services and S&OP.

Professor, Data Scientist, Vice Rector & Extreme Sport Athlete

Michael Kohlegger is lecturer and researcher in Data Science. In his research he focuses on the storage and analysis of data. In his teaching, Mike has been experimenting a lot with new media and e-learning – also in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. And he always goes “all in” no matter what’s the task at hand.

The former world-travelled professional wrestler and Zen practitioner is the founder of a successful health company in Switzerland and also coaches people to become mentally, physically and emotionally stronger. He knows from experience how it feels to be mentally, physically and emotionally broken and how to find your true strength again.
