In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Jin Yoshimura

Professor Emeritus at Shizuoka University
Jin Yoshimura is a Professor Emeritus at Shizuoka University, born in Kanagawa in 1954. He is a former researcher at The University of British Columbia and the Center for Population Biology at Imperial College London and was a professor at Shizuoka University. His research interests are mathematical ecology and evolutionary biology. He became recognized since his research paper about uncertainty on natural selection, published in 1987, was cited in Nature Reviews by a renowned evolutionary biologist, John Maynard Smith, and others. Writings: “Mysteries in Prime Number Cicadas (in Japanese)”, “The Strongest Cannot Survive (in Japanese)”, etc.

Kozue Yamaura

Career Education Practitioner
Kozue Yamaura is a Career Education Practitioner born and raised in Iwata. Facing multiple difficulties in her childhood, she moved to Tokyo to pursue her dream of becoming a broadcaster. Through her experience in the TV industry, she learned that there are various jobs behind the scenes, which she wanted to share with children. Although she suffered from depression in her 30s, she gained self-help skills by studying psychology and psychotherapy to overcome it. Later she returned to Iwata City with her child, and in 2013, she launched a non-profit organization as a career education coordinator. She has organized multiple projects, including work experience events and summer schools at local schools and communities. Furthermore, her work in providing employment support for those who are socially isolated and others in need has made her truly realize the importance of career education.

Masami Takeuchi

Theremin player
Masami Takeuchi is a professional theremin player living in Hamamatsu. In 1993, he moved to Russia where he studied theremin performance under Lydia Kavina, a disciple of Lev Theremin. He has contributed to spreading theremin culture by releasing CD albums, playing in multiple concerts in and outside of Japan, making appearances on TV and radio, publishing books and research papers, and teaching theremin performance to his students. He launched Matryoshika-shaped theremins called Matryomin in 2003 and set the Guinness World Record for the “Largest Theremin Ensemble” in 2013. During his performance back in 2016, he suffered a stroke. Despite his paralysis on one side of his body, he continues to perform and played theremin for the NHK TV series in 2022.

Takashi Uchiyama

Entrepreneur
After working for 17 years in the department store division of a railroad group, he was transferred to the real estate division, where he grew his interest in VR and Digital Twin technologies. He came up with the idea of utilizing those technologies as a 3D user interface and started his own business, and continues to expand it now. He is currently working on the development of a spatial monitoring system that links virtual and real space as a response to the global pandemic.

Takayuki Mitsugi

Designer
Takayuki Mitsugi is a designer based in Nishijin, Kyoto. Moving to the States at the age of 20, he majored in Sculpture and Interactive Art during his college years while starting his career as a freelance web designer. After graduating from college, he worked in public relations for a Japanese company in New York. He then moved back to Japan in 2005, and after his career as a web director, he started his own business. Currently, he works in various fields including graphic design, web design, community design, and education. He is trying to find a way to interact with people from a design perspective and ideas. In addition, he has been the TEDxKyoto organizer and licensee since 2018.
